Offshore Sportsbooks: Who Licenses Them and How to Check the Register
Offshore sportsbooks are licensed by a regulator outside the countries most of their players live in, usually in Curaçao or Anjouan. A licence number in a footer is easy to print and easy to fake. Here is what each register shows, how to look a sportsbook up in two minutes, and what we found for thirteen of them.
Offshore sportsbooks are sportsbooks licensed by a regulator in a small jurisdiction, most often Curaçao or Anjouan, and open to players from many countries under that single licence. Almost every crypto sportsbook works this way. The licence is the one document that ties the website you see to a real company that a regulator has looked at, which is why it is worth checking rather than trusting.
A licence number in a footer is a line of text. The register is the evidence. This page explains what the two main registers show for offshore sportsbooks and how to read them, and lists what we found when we looked up thirteen sportsbooks between 24 August and 13 September 2026.

Two regulators carry most offshore sportsbooks
| Regulator | Number format | What the register shows | Sportsbooks on this site |
|---|---|---|---|
| Curaçao Gaming Authority | OGL/year/number/number | licensee company, licence number, status, and for many entries the licensed domains | Bitcasino.io, Vave, Metaspins, Wild.io, Bitsler, Shuffle |
| Anjouan Gaming Board | ALSI-digits-suffix | licensee company, licence number and validity | Rainbet, Rakebit, Bspin, CoinPoker, DuckDice |
Curaçao changed its system in 2023. Before then, a handful of master licence holders issued sublicences, and a sportsbook showed the master's number, often in a form such as 1668/JAZ. Licences are now issued by the Curaçao Gaming Authority directly, under numbers that begin with OGL, and the public register lists those. An old-style number on a sportsbook today means the register cannot confirm it.
How to check a licence in two minutes
- Find the number and the company. Both are usually in the footer and again in the first section of the terms, where the operator names itself.
- Open the regulator's register. Use the regulator's own website, reached by typing its address, not a link inside the sportsbook's footer.
- Search by number, then by company. A match on both is the result you want.
- Compare three things. The company in the register should be the company in the terms; the status should read active or valid; and where the register lists domains, the sportsbook's address should be among them.
- Note the date. Licences are renewed and revoked. A check is true on the day you made it.

Eleven of the thirteen offshore sportsbooks show a licence that the register confirms. Two details are worth reading closely. Vave's licence is active, but the register lists it under vavegame.com rather than vave.com; the company and the number match, so we treat it as confirmed and note the domain difference. Rocketpot shows the old Curaçao format, which the current register cannot confirm. Neither detail says anything about how the sportsbook treats its players; both say something about how up to date its paperwork is.
What a licence tells you, and what it does not
A licence tells you that a named company exists, that a regulator has issued it a permit to run gambling, and that there is somewhere to send a complaint. It is the reason a sportsbook's terms can name a dispute procedure at all.
It does not tell you when the sportsbook asks for ID, how fast it pays or how much it lets you withdraw in a week. Those rules live in the terms, and they differ a great deal between sportsbooks under the same regulator. Six Curaçao-licensed offshore sportsbooks on this site publish six different sets of withdrawal rules. That is why our ranking uses the licence as one of five checks, not the only one.

An offshore licence is often what lets offshore sportsbooks open accounts with an email and check identity later, at a trigger each sets in its own terms: at the first withdrawal, above a sum, or when its risk team asks. Every licensed sportsbook keeps that right. The useful question is not whether it can ask, but whether its terms say when. The crypto betting sites page lists each cashier, the fast withdrawal page lists payout periods, and the sources page lists every document we read.
