NFL Betting: Key Numbers, Spreads and the Road to the Super Bowl
NFL betting is built on scarcity: seventeen games per team, one game a week, and a whole week of news between them. Here is how NFL odds are written, why three and seven are the most important numbers in the sport, and how props, teasers and the Super Bowl work.

No major sport has less data per season than the NFL. Thirty-two teams play seventeen games each over eighteen weeks, so every result moves the market more than a single game in any other league. That scarcity is why NFL betting is so heavily analysed, and why NFL odds are among the most efficient prices a sportsbook sets on the biggest games of the week.

The three main NFL markets
- The spread. The favourite gives points, the underdog gets them. Most NFL games are bet on the spread, with both sides priced around -110 in American odds, about 1.91 in decimal.
- The moneyline. Straight-up winner, overtime included. Heavy favourites pay little; the moneyline matters most when the spread is small.
- The total. Combined points over or under a line. Weather moves it more than in any other major sport: wind above about fifteen miles an hour hurts the passing and kicking game, and totals drop when it is forecast.
Key numbers: why 3 and 7 matter
A field goal is worth three points; a touchdown with the extra point, seven. So more NFL games end with a three-point or seven-point margin than any other. That is why sportsbooks treat a spread of 3 very differently from 2.5 or 3.5, and why a half-point move across 3 can change the price on both sides.
For a bettor, the key numbers mean two things. Taking +3.5 instead of +2.5 is worth far more than any other half-point in the sport. And a line that sits on exactly 3 can push, refunding the stake when the favourite wins by three.
How NFL odds move through the week
Lines for the next round open within hours of the last game, often on Sunday night. Early money moves them first. Then come the injury reports: teams publish practice participation from Wednesday and the final game status on Friday, and a starting quarterback's status can move a spread by several points on its own.
By Sunday most of the information is in the price. Late moves come from inactive lists, published about ninety minutes before kick-off, and from weather. Anyone betting early is betting on how the news will go; anyone betting late is paying for certainty.
Player props and same-game parlays
Player props cover passing yards, rushing yards, receptions, touchdowns and more, for almost every player who will see the field. They carry wider margins than the spread, but they also react more slowly to news such as a receiver's role changing.
Same-game parlays combine several props and markets from one game. The sportsbook prices the combination, accounting for how the outcomes depend on each other, so the price is not simply the product of the legs. They are fun, and they carry some of the widest margins in NFL betting.
Teasers and alternative lines
A teaser moves the spread or total in your favour, usually by six points, across two or more games, in exchange for a lower price. The classic version takes favourites of -7.5 to -8.5 down to -1.5 to -2.5, or underdogs of +1.5 to +2.5 up to +7.5 to +8.5, passing through both key numbers. Alternative lines do the same for a single game at a price set by the book.
SportsbookSportsbook and casino in one accountOpen sportsbook18+ · read the terms before your first depositThe Super Bowl and NFL futures
The playoffs take fourteen teams, seven from each conference, and finish with the Super Bowl in February. It is the most bet single game in the world, with hundreds of props on top of the spread and total.
Futures run all year: Super Bowl winner, conference and division winners, regular-season win totals, and awards such as the MVP. They carry the widest margins in NFL betting and tie up your stake for months, so their value depends on getting a view in before the market does.
NFL betting sites and payout limits
A same-game parlay or a teaser across a full Sunday slate can return far more than its stake. Every operator below names a withdrawal ceiling and a point where identity documents can be requested; the grid shows both, from each site's own terms.

The NFL's own streaming service and the national broadcasters in each country carry every game. Some betting sites also show selected games inside the account to signed-in players; we have picked sites where that exists, and which games they cover differs from site to site.
Other sports are on the sports betting hub; the NBA is on the basketball betting page, and the full ranking of sites on the home page.
