PDC World Darts Championship 2026/27: Outrights, Each Way and Match Markets
128 players, a £5 million prize fund and a final on Sunday 3 January 2027. The PDC World Championship returns to Alexandra Palace, now in the Great Hall, with Luke Littler going for a third title in a row. Here is how the format shapes the prices, which markets are worth a look and who the favourites are on the facts.
The PDC World Championship is the one darts event that the casual punter bets on, and that changes the market. Outright prices open months before the first dart, the favourite is backed heavily by people who watch darts once a year, and the longer format punishes anyone who prices a world title like a floor event. World darts championship odds reward patience: read the draw, read the format, then decide where the value sits.

Dates, venue and what is new for 2026/27
The tournament runs from Friday 11 December 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027 at Alexandra Palace in north London. Play stops for Christmas from 24 to 27 December and resumes for the closing rounds either side of New Year. The first round starts four days earlier than it did a year ago, and the final is on a Sunday.
The bigger change is the room. After nineteen editions in the West Hall, the championship moves into the Great Hall, which holds more than 5,200 spectators against the old limit of around 3,200. The PDC is selling 180,000 tickets for the event, allocated by ballot. A bigger, louder crowd is something to keep in mind for nervous debutants on the opening nights.
The field is 128 players. The top 40 on the two-year PDC ranking qualify automatically, the next 40 come from the one-year Pro Tour ranking, and 48 places go to international qualifiers from Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas and Oceania. The top 32 are seeded, but since the field expanded last year there are no byes: every seed starts in round one.
Format: sets, and matches that get longer every round
Every match is played in sets, and each set is a best-of-five-legs contest. The number of sets grows round by round, so the same two players would be priced differently in round one and in a semi-final.
| Round | Players | Match length | Prize for losing at this stage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round one | 128 | Best of 5 sets | £15,000 |
| Round two | 64 | Best of 5 sets | £25,000 |
| Round three | 32 | Best of 7 sets | £35,000 |
| Round four | 16 | Best of 7 sets | £60,000 |
| Quarter-finals | 8 | Best of 9 sets | £100,000 |
| Semi-finals | 4 | Best of 11 sets | £200,000 |
| Final | 2 | Best of 13 sets | £400,000 runner-up, £1,000,000 winner |
The total prize fund is £5 million. A deciding set has its own rule: a player must win it by two clear legs, and if it reaches 5–5 a single sudden-death leg settles the match.
Short matches early, long ones late: that is the single most useful fact behind world darts championship odds. A best-of-five-sets first round can be over in nine legs, and a strong qualifier can win it with one hot spell. By the final, thirteen sets give the better player time to recover from a bad start, which is why upsets are far more common in the opening week than after Christmas.
The outright market and each-way terms
The outright is the headline market, and the World Darts Championship odds you see in December are mostly a ranking of form, shaped by the draw. Two things move them. The first is the bracket: a top seed whose quarter of the draw is full of heavy scorers is a worse bet than his price suggests. The second is money from casual punters, which tends to shorten the household names and leave value further down the list.
Each-way betting suits the tournament because a darts semi-final is a realistic target for a top-eight player even when he cannot be backed to win. An each-way bet is two equal stakes: one on the player to win, one on him to place. Terms vary between sites; the common forms pay a fraction of the win odds for reaching the final or the semi-finals. Before you commit, run the numbers through our each-way calculator so you know what a semi-final exit actually returns.
A useful habit: compare the place part of an each-way bet with the “to reach the semi-final” special if the site offers one. They pay on the same outcome, and one is often the better price.
Who the favourites are and why
Luke Littler is the defending champion. He beat Gian van Veen 7–1 in the January 2026 final to retain the title, becoming the fourth player to win successive PDC world titles, and he threw 73 maximums across the event. His 2026 has been just as heavy: wins at the World Masters, the UK Open, the Premier League and the World Matchplay, plus the World Cup with Luke Humphries for England.
The Order of Merit shows how far ahead he is. After Players Championship 26 at the start of August, Littler led on about £3.1 million, roughly three times the totals of van Veen and Humphries, who were separated by a few thousand pounds in second and third. Gerwyn Price, Jonny Clayton, James Wade, Michael van Gerwen, Josh Rock, Stephen Bunting and Danny Noppert made up the rest of the top ten.
Humphries comes into the winter with momentum of his own, having won the World Grand Prix in early October. Van Veen reached last season's final, and Gary Anderson and Ryan Searle were the other semi-finalists. Ross Smith won the World Series Finals in September.
Our view: Littler deserves to be favourite, and we expect him to start at a short price, well under evens on our estimate rather than any operator's quote. That leaves little in the win part of the outright. The more interesting angle in the world darts championship odds is each way on a player in the bottom half of the top ten whose route to the semi-finals avoids Littler and Humphries until the last four. Our pick will depend on the draw, which is not yet made.
Match markets: 180s, checkouts and set handicaps
Most of the betting turnover at Alexandra Palace goes on individual matches, and world darts championship odds for a single tie are shaped by the format as much as by the players. Some markets are more predictable than they look.
- Match winner. Two-way, no draw. Early-round favourites are shorter than on the floor because sets reduce variance, but a five-set match can still turn on a single break of throw.
- Set handicap. A start in sets given to the underdog. In a best-of-seven, a favourite at -1.5 sets must win 4–2 or better. Handicaps get more useful as matches lengthen.
- Correct score. The exact score in sets. Long prices, and a fair way to back a favourite without accepting a very short match price.
- Total 180s and most 180s. Lines rise with match length, so a total that looks generous in round one would be low in a semi-final. Heavy scorers can win the 180s count and still lose the match.
- Highest checkout. Usually a line around 100.5 per match; the maximum is 170, and one was hit at last year's championship. Longer matches mean more legs and more chances of a big finish, so the over gains value in later rounds.
- Tournament specials. Total 180s at the event, a nine-darter during the tournament, the highest checkout of the event. These are settled on the whole fortnight, so read the rules on what counts if a match is not completed.

The draw sets the bracket, and the bracket sets the outright world darts championship odds. Look at three things. First, which seeds face a dangerous qualifier in round one, where the matches are shortest. Second, which quarter holds the most players from the top 16. Third, who has to play before Christmas and then again after the break, because a long gap can cool a player in form.
The round-by-round order of play had not been published when we wrote this page; we will add it once the PDC confirms it. Outright and match bets reward different timing: an outright is a view on the whole bracket and can be taken as soon as the draw is known, while a match price is best taken close to the session, when practice form and the order of play are clear.

Where to watch
In the UK the championship is shown live on Sky Sports, as confirmed with the dates. Outside the UK, national broadcasters hold the rights in many countries and the PDC's own channels carry coverage elsewhere. Some betting sites let signed-in customers watch selected matches inside their accounts; we picked sites where that option exists, though which sessions are shown is not the same everywhere.
Before you bet
Set your stakes for the fortnight before the first session. Three weeks of darts, with a session nearly every afternoon and evening, makes it easy to bet more than planned. If you are in Britain, our list of betting sites for UK players is the place to start; every sport we follow is on the sports betting hub, and the full ranking of no verification betting sites is on the home page. World darts championship odds move quickly once the draw is out, so compare at least two sites before each bet.
