The Breeders' Cup packs fourteen championship races into two evenings, and for a British or Irish bettor it is the one American meeting where the home runners and the visitors meet on equal terms. Breeders Cup odds are set by two very different markets at once: the American pools, where the price is only known after the race, and fixed-odds books, where you take a number and keep it. This page sets out the 2026 card, the start times in UK time and how to use each market.

Keeneland, 30–31 October 2026

The 43rd World Championships are at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky, on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October 2026. It is Keeneland's fourth time as host, after 2015, 2020 and 2022. All fourteen races are Grade 1, and the purses and awards add up to more than $34 million.

Friday is billed as Future Stars Friday: five races for two-year-olds, three on turf and two on dirt. Saturday is the championship card proper, nine races for older horses that end with the Classic.

Post times are the organisers' published schedule and can slip by a few minutes on the day.

Why the gap is four hours, not five

Britain moves to GMT on Sunday 25 October, but the United States keeps daylight saving until 1 November. For the week of the meeting Kentucky is only four hours behind London, so the Classic goes off at about 10:16 pm UK time. Anyone used to adding five hours for American racing will be an hour late for every race.

Last year at Del Mar

The 2025 meeting at Del Mar is the best guide to where the visitors are dangerous. Five of the fourteen races went to European-bred horses, and all five were on the grass:

  • Gstaad, trained by Aidan O'Brien, won the Juvenile Turf at about 6–5.
  • Balantina came from tenth to win the Juvenile Fillies Turf at about 20–1.
  • Notable Speech won the Mile.
  • Gezora, bred in France, won the Filly & Mare Turf at about 9–1.
  • Ethical Diamond, trained by Willie Mullins, came from tenth to win the Turf at about 27–1.

The Classic went overseas too, though not to Europe. Forever Young, trained in Japan by Yoshito Yahagi and ridden by Ryusei Sakai, beat Sierra Leone by half a length. He was the first horse trained outside North America to win the race since Arcangues in 1993.

Europeans on turf and on dirt

The split in last year's results is the oldest pattern at the meeting. European horses come over for the turf races and win plenty of them. On the dirt they rarely figure. Only two European-trained horses have ever won the Classic: Arcangues at 133–1 in 1993 and Raven's Pass in 2008.

Dirt racing asks something different. The early pace is faster, horses take kickback in the face, and a turf horse that quickens off a steady gallop can be outpaced before the straight. That is why Aidan O'Brien, who arrives level with Bob Baffert on 21 Breeders' Cup wins, has no Classic runner this year. His record is built on the grass: eight wins in the Juvenile Turf and seven in the Turf.

The Turf over 1½ miles for $5 million is the European target. Two Win and You're In races give their winners an automatic place: Daryz won the Arc on 4 October for the second year running, and Hotazhell won the Irish Champion Stakes at 50–1. Whether either travels is up to their connections. On Friday, O'Brien's Sun Goddess won the Cheveley Park for a fifth win in a row and is pointed at the Juvenile Fillies Turf.

Pools against fixed prices

American racing is bet through pari-mutuel pools run by the tracks. Each bet type has its own pool; the operator takes a cut and the remainder is shared between winning tickets. The tote price moves until the gates open and you get whatever it shows at the off. British and Irish books, and most international sportsbooks, price the big races at fixed odds: the number on your slip is the number you are paid.

The two markets produce different Breeders Cup odds for the same horse. A European runner is often shorter with British books, who take a lot of home money on him, than in the American pool, where the local public backs dirt form and American jockeys. The reverse applies to a US-trained turf horse that British punters barely know. Checking Breeders Cup odds in both markets before you bet is the easiest edge on the card.

The American exotics

The pools offer bets that fixed-odds books mostly do not:

  • Exacta: first and second in the right order.
  • Trifecta: first, second and third in the right order.
  • Pick 4: the winners of four races in a row.
  • Pick 6: the winners of six races in a row, a bet that can build a large pool across a championship card.

Multi-race bets reward one thing above all: finding where the card is weak. A single horse you are confident in, used alone in one leg, pays for spreading wide in a race where twelve runners have a chance. With turf sprints and juvenile races full of lightly raced horses, the Breeders' Cup has plenty of those wide-open legs.

Each way at fixed odds

American place and show pools pay on second and third, not on the fixed fraction a British each-way bet uses. If you back a European turf runner each way with a fixed-odds book, check the place terms for each race, which depend on the size of the field. Our each-way calculator works out both halves of the return.

Our view of the 2026 card

This is our opinion, not a quote of anyone's Breeders Cup odds.

Classic. Forever Young comes back as the defending champion and the horse to beat. He won the Saudi Cup earlier this year and the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park on 18 September by 3¼ lengths, and he topped the Classic power rankings published on 23 September. Sovereignty, second in those rankings, missed the Gold Cup with a foot bruise, and that interruption is the main question about him. Our pick is Forever Young to win, with Sovereignty the danger if he arrives fit. Expect Forever Young to be the shortest price in the Classic betting; that expected price is an estimate.

Turf. Our view is that a European horse wins it for the second year in a row. The race comes four weeks after the Arc, the European form is the deepest in the field, and two of last year's European winners came from tenth place to win. Wait for the declarations before backing anything ante-post.

Juvenile Fillies Turf. Sun Goddess is the one to beat. Five wins in a row and a Group 1 in the Cheveley Park make her the form choice, and her trainer has won more Breeders' Cup turf races for two-year-olds than anyone.

We compare every operator we rate on the main page, where the no verification betting sites are ranked by when they ask for documents and how quickly withdrawals land. For British bettors, the UK betting sites guide covers racing markets and payout times.

Where to watch the Breeders' Cup

In the United States the meeting is on NBC Sports: USA Network carries Friday from 1 pm to 6 pm Eastern and the first part of Saturday, and NBC takes over for the late races including the Classic. The organisers distribute pictures internationally to more than 180 territories, so the races are shown outside America by broadcasters with local rights. Check UK and Irish listings in the week of the meeting.

Some betting sites show racing pictures to account holders, and American meetings are often among them. We have listed sites that carry racing streams, but each one has its own set of tracks, so open the racing schedule inside your account to confirm Keeneland is on it before the Friday card.

Streams are shown to signed-in accounts on selected events, and the list differs between betting sites and between matches. 18+.

Planning the weekend

Breeders Cup odds move most in the final week. Declarations and post-position draws come out a few days before each card, and in the big-field turf races a wide draw can matter as much as a piece of form. If you want a price early, take it at fixed odds; if you would rather see the field, wait for the pools.

For the British betting terms that work differently from American ones, start with our horse racing guide. The two-year-olds running on Friday are the first serious form for next spring, so the Kentucky Derby page follows the Juvenile's 30 points into the Derby picture. Picks for other sports are on the predictions page. Breeders Cup odds will be updated here after the draws.

When and where is the 2026 Breeders' Cup?
Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October 2026 at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky. It is the 43rd running of the World Championships and Keeneland's fourth time as host, after 2015, 2020 and 2022.
What time is the Breeders' Cup Classic in the UK?
The Classic is scheduled for 6:16 pm Eastern on Saturday 31 October, which is 10:16 pm in the UK. British clocks go back on 25 October and American clocks not until 1 November, so that week the gap is four hours rather than five.
Who won the 2025 Breeders' Cup Classic?
Forever Young, trained in Japan by Yoshito Yahagi and ridden by Ryusei Sakai. He beat Sierra Leone by half a length at Del Mar and was the first overseas-trained winner of the race since Arcangues in 1993.
How much prize money is on offer at the 2026 Breeders' Cup?
More than $34 million in purses and awards across the two days. The Classic is worth $7 million and the Turf $5 million; the other races carry $1 million or $2 million each.
Should I bet the Breeders' Cup on the pools or at fixed odds?
Compare Breeders Cup odds in both. Win bets on short-priced favourites are usually better at a fixed price you can lock in. Exotics such as the trifecta and the Pick 4 only exist in the pools, and that is where the big returns from long-priced winners come from. Many bettors use both.
