Sky Bet: who runs it, how payments work and when it asks for your documents
Sky Bet is one of the best-known sportsbooks in Britain, and its own terms are unusually specific about verification. This page sets out what those terms and the Sky Bet help centre say about the licence holder, payments and the point at which documents become compulsory.
People searching for Sky Bet sports betting usually want two answers: who stands behind the account, and how much paperwork comes with it. Sky Bet publishes both in plain terms. Its general terms and conditions run to 32 numbered sections, and section 7 deals with verification in more detail than most operators bother with. Everything below comes from those terms, the Sky Bet help centre and the Gambling Commission's public register, read on 5 October 2026.

Who runs Sky Bet and which licence applies to you
Section 2 of the terms names the company behind Sky Bet sports betting. When the document says “Sky Bet”, it means SBG Sports Limited, a company registered in England & Wales whose place of business is in St Julian's, Malta. The casino, bingo, poker and Vegas products sit with a separate company, Bonne Terre Gaming Limited, which holds its own Gambling Commission licence (065519) and a Gibraltar remote licence (No. 156). For a sports bettor, only the first company matters.
SBG Sports Limited holds three permissions, and the terms say which one covers which customer:
| Customer location | Licence named in section 2 |
|---|---|
| United Kingdom and Isle of Man | Gambling Commission, licence number 67370 |
| Republic of Ireland (sportsbook only) | Gambling Regulatory Authority, registration GRAI-1069-RB-26-0001 |
| Any other country | Malta Gaming Authority, MGA/B2C/1111/2025 |
The Gambling Commission register confirms the British side. Account 67370 belongs to SBG Sports Limited, shows as active, and lists General Betting Standard for real and virtual events, Pool Betting and Gambling Software, all remote, with an effective date of 6 October 2025. The terms we could read do not say in which year the Sky Bet brand began trading, so we leave that out.
Section 6.1 sets the age floor: you must be 18 or older to use the services.
What the sportsbook puts in front of you
The general terms cover the account behind Sky Bet sports betting, not the markets, so the detail here comes from the help centre. Its Cash Out article describes Cash Out as a way to settle an open bet for a value set at that moment, higher or lower than the stake depending on how the bet is going. It is offered pre-play, in-play and between legs of a multiple, across singles, multiples and accumulators, with football, tennis and horse racing named as examples. Partial Cash Out is supported: you settle part of the bet and the rest keeps running.
Not every market qualifies. The same article says some popular markets are not eligible for Cash Out as standard, and gives football handicaps and season-long bets as examples. If you plan to manage positions in-running, check the market before you place the bet rather than after. Our cash out guide explains why the offered value is usually below the fair price.
The help centre also carries separate articles for BuildABet and RequestABet, its same-game combination products. For how same-event combinations are priced in general, see the bet builder guide. The pages we read do not set out terms for live video, so we do not describe it here.
Paying in and taking money out
Money rules for Sky Bet sports betting sit in sections 9 and 12. Section 9.2 says deposits must come from a debit card or an online payment service, and section 9.3 says the name on the card must match the name on the account. The minimum deposit is £5 (section 9.7). The deposit help page lists debit cards, Apple Pay, Pay by Bank and, for UK customers paying in pounds, Revolut Pay. It also states that betting companies can no longer take credit cards, allows up to three debit cards per account and has no minimum for Pay by Bank.
Withdrawals follow three conditions in section 12.1: your deposits have cleared and were not charged back, Sky Bet has finished any verification checks, and no review of the account is open. Section 12.4 sends money back only to the method it came from. Section 12.6 says funds usually leave within 2 hours on the working day of the request; after that, the card issuer's clearance is normally same day, otherwise 2–5 working days.
The withdrawal help page breaks this down by method:
- Pay by Bank: appears in your bank immediately, minimum £5.
- Instant card withdrawal (Visa and participating Mastercard): within 1–4 hours, minimum £5.
- Standard card withdrawal: 2–5 working days, minimum £5.
- Revolut Pay: usually instant, no minimum.
- Apple Pay: only to a card you have already deposited from through Apple Pay.
Section 12.7 still gives £10 as the standard minimum withdrawal, so the terms and the help page do not agree. The cashier shows the figure that applies to your method. Nothing we read lists cryptocurrency among the payment options.
SportsbookSportsbook and casino in one accountOpen sportsbook18+ · read the terms before your first depositWhen Sky Bet asks for documents
This is the part that decides whether Sky Bet sports betting suits someone who reads our site. The short version: identity checks happen before you can gamble, most of them run electronically, and documents become compulsory if those checks fail or if the money on the account draws attention.
Before the first bet. Section 7.5 covers customers in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. Clause 7.5.1 says you will not be permitted to deposit, withdraw or gamble until Sky Bet has verified your name, address and date of birth. The Joining Us help article explains how that normally happens: electronic checks against the details you enter, which in most cases verify you without any upload. Contact details also have to be confirmed before the first deposit.
The first 30 days. Clause 7.5.2 lets a new UK customer deposit up to £1,500 in the first 30 days, but no withdrawal is paid until the account is fully verified. Clause 7.5.3 restricts the account if full verification is still missing when the 30 days end. In practice, a balance can build up that you cannot take out until the checks are complete.
Ireland and Gibraltar. Section 7.6 is stricter in its wording: clause 7.6.1 says you cannot deposit, withdraw or gamble until you have provided evidence of identity and address.
At any time. Section 7 also reserves the right to ask for proof of age and address and to suspend or restrict the account until it arrives. It names a passport, driving licence or birth certificate, and says documents can go by post to the Leeds office, through the Jumio service, through live chat or through the account's document uploader.
Later, because of the money. Section 29.10 is the clause most people never read. It describes initial and ongoing due diligence and says the Safer Gambling team may ask about you or the source of your funding, including when you try to raise a deposit limit. Documents named include proof of identity, proof of earnings, bank statements and evidence of business ownership. The account can be suspended or restricted until you supply them.
What the verification page accepts
The help article on verification lists one valid photo ID: passport, driving licence, passport card, or national ID or residence permit, with a birth certificate only if none of those exists. ID must be a JPEG, JPG or PNG photo; PDFs and screenshots are refused for ID. For a UK address, one utility bill or bank statement under six months old is enough. Irish customers need two address documents. Where the usual papers are missing, the page lists alternatives dated within six months, such as council tax bills, HMRC statements, phone or broadband bills, motor insurance statements and tenancy agreements.
The same page lists what fails: age cards, bus passes, NHS cards, paper driving licences, student cards, payslips, invoices, black-and-white copies, obscured documents, and one document used for both ID and address. Uploads go through My Account, then Account Settings, then Upload Identity Documents. Sky Bet aims to review them within 4 hours, sometimes up to 24, and only between 7am and 2am.
Who this setup suits and who it does not
Sky Bet sports betting fits a bettor based in the UK or Ireland who is comfortable with a credit-reference check at sign-up, pays by debit card, Pay by Bank or Revolut Pay, and wants Cash Out with partial settlement on most mainstream markets. If the electronic check passes, that person may never upload a file, and card withdrawals can land within hours.
It fits less well if you do not want your identity matched against credit-reference data at all, if you expect to deposit heavily and would rather not explain your income, or if you want to pay in crypto. The terms leave no room for anonymity: verification comes before gambling, and source-of-funds questions can arrive at any point. If you are setting deposit limits for your own control, our responsible gambling page lists the options.
If handing over documents is not an option
Some bettors like the Sky Bet sports betting menu but would rather not send a passport scan or payslips to any sportsbook. For them, the comparison on our home page of no verification betting sites is the better starting point, and the fast withdrawal sportsbooks list sets out payout speeds side by side. Many of the sites in that table take crypto, which our crypto betting sites page covers in more depth. Each operator keeps the right to ask for documents in some situations, so read its own verification clause before you deposit.
