David Benavidez: Three Weights, No Defeats, and a Cruiserweight Unification
David Benavidez is 32–0, holds the WBA and WBO cruiserweight belts and the WBC light heavyweight title, and sits in every major pound-for-pound top ten. The WBC has ordered him to fight its champion Michał Cieślak, with 12 December in Arizona the expected date. Here is the record and how we price it.
David Benavidez has won world titles at super middleweight, light heavyweight and cruiserweight, the first boxer ever to do it at those three weights, and he has not lost in 32 professional fights. In May 2026 he knocked out Gilberto Ramírez to take the WBA and WBO cruiserweight belts. Now the WBC has ordered him to face its champion, Michał Cieślak, with 12 December in Arizona the expected date. For a bettor the question is not really who wins, it is when.

| 8 Sep 2017 | Ronald Gavril | Won on points over 12 | Won vacant WBC super middleweight title |
Six of his 32 wins went to the cards, and three of those six came against Plant, Gvozdyk and Morrell, three of the better boxers he has met. Our reading of the pattern: against punchers and against men moving up or down, he finishes; against technicians who can keep their distance, he usually wins clearly but not early.
What is known about David Benavidez
Pressure and combinations. Against Yarde he set the pace from the first bell, using quick hands and combination punching to keep his opponent on the ropes until the stoppage in round seven. Against Morrell, in a fight thrown at high volume on both sides, CompuBox counted 224 of 553 punches landed (40.5%) to Morrell's 165 of 601 (27.5%).
He can be hit. Andrade won the early rounds before a right hand in the fourth changed the fight, and Morrell scored a flash knockdown near the end of the eleventh, only the second of Benavidez's career. Neither came close to costing him the result.
Size is the open question at cruiserweight. He weighed 196.8 lb for Ramírez, who came in on the 200 lb limit, and still knocked him out in the sixth round. Cieślak will be a natural cruiserweight too.
Benavidez vs Cieślak: chances and why
The route to this fight was messy. The WBC first ordered its champion Noel Mikaelian to defend against Benavidez; Mikaelian chose Jai Opetaia instead and was stopped in round nine on 12 September. The WBC then declared its title vacant, elevated interim champion Cieślak and ordered him to face Benavidez, with the winner to meet Opetaia. Reports put the fight on 12 December in Arizona, not yet formally announced when we checked.
Our estimate, not a bookmaker price: Benavidez 84%, a fair price of about 1.19; Cieślak 15%, about 6.65; the draw 1%. Check what a quoted price implies with the odds calculator.
Our reasons:
- Level of opposition. Cieślak, 28–2 with one no contest and 22 knockouts, has challenged for a world title twice before, against Ilunga Makabu and Lawrence Okolie, and lost both times. Benavidez has beaten three world-level opponents in his last four fights.
- He has already done it at the weight. The Ramírez knockout came against a unified champion who weighed more than him.
- Pressure tends to break opponents late. Yarde, Andrade, Dirrell and Ramírez were all stopped between the sixth and ninth rounds.
- The open risk is size. A strong cruiserweight who can take the early pressure is the one style that could test him, which is why our number stops short of 90%.
How to bet on David Benavidez
The boxing betting guide explains every market below in full.
- Win only. At an estimated 84% the moneyline is short; it earns its place in a double with another fight on the same weekend more than as a single.
- Method. Our view is that the result is more likely to come by stoppage than on points. His decisions in the last four years came against Plant, Gvozdyk and Morrell; his other title fights in that time ended early.
- Round groups. His stoppages in title fights since 2022 came in rounds three, six, six and seven. A band covering rounds five to eight fits that record.
- Total rounds. If the line sits around 8.5, the under matches our view; the over is the bet if you think Cieślak's size takes it late.
- Draw. Very unlikely here, but it governs how a two-way winner market settles, so read the rule.
Where to watch
Benavidez's fights are usually sold on pay-per-view or carried by the promoters' broadcast partners, which differ by country and change from card to card. Several of the betting sites we picked stream some boxing to signed-in account holders, usually the smaller bouts rather than title main events, and what each carries changes week to week.
