Manchester City v Paris Saint-Germain: Preview, Team News and Our Pick
Enzo Maresca's unbeaten City host the league-phase leaders on Wednesday 14 October. Paris arrive top of the Champions League table but sixth in France, and City face Liverpool three days before. Here is the form, the team news and where we think the value sits.
Two clubs in very different moods meet at the Etihad. City have won every competitive match since losing the Community Shield in August; Paris sit top of the Champions League table after one round but only sixth in Ligue 1. Our man city vs psg prediction starts from that gap between European and domestic form, then adds the schedule: City play at Anfield three days before this match.

Wednesday at the Etihad: date, kick-off and what is at stake
The match is on Wednesday 14 October 2026, 20:00 UK time (21:00 in Paris), at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester. It is matchday 2 of the 2026–27 league phase.
After one round PSG are first, having beaten Slovan Bratislava 6–1, and City are eighth after a 2–0 win in Porto. That gap is goal difference and nothing else. Both clubs have three points, and six more matches remain after this one. A win here is worth more than the three points: it is a result against a direct rival for the top eight, the places that skip February's play-off round.
There is also a coaching subplot. Enzo Maresca replaced Pep Guardiola in the summer, and the last time a Maresca side met Luis Enrique's PSG was the Club World Cup final on 13 July 2025, when Chelsea won 3–0. One match fifteen months ago tells you little about this one, but it tells you Maresca has already set a team up to beat this coach.
Form going in: City perfect, Paris patchy
City's last five competitive matches are five wins, and four of them were clean sheets. PSG's run is better than their league position suggests, but they have kept one clean sheet in five.

| Champions League | 8th, 3 pts | 1st, 3 pts |
Two things stand out. City's league start is perfect, three points clear of Arsenal, yet the only big total in that run came against Sunderland, a match City won 5–3 after Brian Brobbey scored a hat-trick. Most of their wins have been narrow and controlled. PSG are the opposite: their domestic games have been open, with 8 scored and 7 conceded in five Ligue 1 rounds, and four of their last five matches in all competitions went over 2.5 goals. They also lost both of their August trophy matches, 2–1 to Aston Villa in the Super Cup and 1–0 to Lens in the Trophée des Champions.
So the question for bettors is which version of this match turns up. Does City's control hold, or does PSG's openness drag City into a shootout?
Head-to-head: the last five meetings
The clubs have met seven times in competitive football, all in the Champions League. City have won four, PSG two, with one draw, a 2–2 in Paris in April 2016. The five most recent:
| Date | Match | Score | Stage |
|---|---|---|---|
| 22 Jan 2025 | PSG v Manchester City | 4–2 | League phase |
| 24 Nov 2021 | Manchester City v PSG | 2–1 | Group stage |
| 28 Sep 2021 | PSG v Manchester City | 2–0 | Group stage |
| 4 May 2021 | Manchester City v PSG | 2–0 | Semi-final, second leg |
| 28 Apr 2021 | PSG v Manchester City | 1–2 | Semi-final, first leg |
None of the last six meetings was drawn. The most recent is the one the market will remember. City led 2–0 in Paris in January 2025 through Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland, then conceded four. City have won all three home meetings, but both clubs have changed coach and most of the squad since 2021, so we give the older results little weight.
Team news: only what has been confirmed
Manchester City. Phil Foden was sent off at Old Trafford on 13 September for violent conduct. His three-match ban covers domestic games only, Norwich, Sunderland and Liverpool, so he is available for PSG. Antoine Semenyo, who scored twice against Sunderland, withdrew from the Ghana squad with a swollen ankle; as of 24 September no return date had been given. Treat him as a doubt until City say otherwise.
Paris Saint-Germain. According to goal.com's preview of PSG v Le Mans on 5 October, Warren Zaïre-Emery and Senny Mayulu are both unavailable with no return date. PSG said on 2 October that Mayulu, injured on France Under-21 duty, would need several weeks of treatment for a left thigh problem. Ferran Torres, who scored seven goals in his first six matches of the season, left the Spain camp with a left ankle problem; PSG hoped he would be fit for Le Mans. If Torres is out, Paris lose their most in-form forward.
The schedule. PSG host Le Mans on Saturday 10 October. City play Liverpool at Anfield at 16:30 on Sunday 11 October, then Ipswich at home on Saturday 17 October. That leaves Paris with one extra day of rest, and gives Maresca a reason to rotate either side of this match.
How the market should price Manchester City v PSG
We have not quoted any sportsbook. The prices below feed our man city vs psg prediction. They are our estimate of where a fair market should sit, in decimal odds, once team news is known.
| Market | Our view | Expected price (our estimate) |
|---|---|---|
| 1X2: City / draw / PSG | City slight favourites at home | around 2.20 / 3.70 / 3.10 |
| Both teams to score: yes | Likely, PSG have scored in six matches running | around 1.57 |
| Total goals: over 2.5 | Our main angle | around 1.65 |
| Handicap: City 0 (draw no bet) | Back-up angle | around 1.70 |
1X2. Home advantage and a perfect domestic record put City ahead, but not by much. PSG top the table after matchday 1, and the January 2025 result is still fresh in the market's memory. We have the draw as the least likely of the three outcomes, because neither side has a reason to settle for a point this early.
Both teams to score. PSG have scored in each of their six matches since the Trophée des Champions. City kept four clean sheets in five, but those came mostly against weaker sides. Our both teams to score guide explains why this market often prices a match like this too short.
Total goals. Our estimate puts over 2.5 at roughly a 60 per cent chance. For the reasoning behind the line, see the over 2.5 goals explainer.
Handicap. City draw no bet protects the stake if the match is level. At around 1.70 it is the best way to back City without paying for the draw.

Our man city vs psg prediction
Main pick: over 2.5 goals, around 1.65 (our estimate). Paris concede regularly at home and away in France, and City's attack has scored 13 goals in its last four games. In this fixture the last two meetings in Paris produced eight goals between them. City at home will push, and PSG do not sit deep. We expect at least three goals. This is a view, not a promise.
Back-up: City draw no bet, around 1.70 (our estimate). If you prefer a side, City at home, with Foden back and a perfect start, are the one we would back, with the stake returned on a draw. The risk is the Anfield trip three days earlier and the chance that Maresca rotates.
What would change our man city vs psg prediction? Two pieces of news: Semenyo ruled out, which takes pace and goals from City, or Torres fit and starting, which strengthens PSG. Check line-ups an hour before kick-off. After the game we will mark whether our man city vs psg prediction landed, so the record stays honest.
