Champions League 2026-27: Predictions, Odds and How the League Phase Bets

Thirty-six clubs, eight matches each and one table. After the opening matchday of 2026-27, here is how the league-phase format shapes the prices, our view on the key matchday 2 fixtures and where the 2027 final in Madrid looks likely to go.

The Champions League is now a 36-club league, and that changes what a fair price looks like. Each club plays eight different opponents, every club meets two opponents from each pot, and the table rewards goal difference across the whole phase. Our Champions League predictions for 2026–27 start from that structure rather than from reputation: who needs what, from which match, and where the handicap line sits once a mismatch is priced.

The league phase after matchday 1 (as of 5 October 2026)

Only one round has been played. Matchday 1 ran over three nights, 8 to 10 September 2026, as the competition's exclusive week, and matchday 2 does not arrive until 13 and 14 October. Every club has played once, so the table below is a snapshot, not a verdict. Sixteen clubs won, four drew and sixteen lost.

PosClubMatchday 1 resultPts
1Paris Saint-Germain6–1 v Slovan Bratislava (h)3
2Bayern Munich5–0 v Bodø/Glimt (h)3
3Barcelona5–1 v Feyenoord (h)3
4Manchester United4–0 v Sabah (h)3
5Como4–1 v RB Leipzig (h)3
6Sporting CP3–1 v Galatasaray (h)3
6VfB Stuttgart3–1 v Viking (h)3
8Manchester City2–0 at Porto3

Two results stand out for anyone pricing the next seven rounds. Como, making their league-phase debut, beat RB Leipzig 4–1. Arsenal won 1–0 in Naples, and Liverpool beat Atlético Madrid 2–1 at Anfield. At the bottom, Bodø/Glimt (0–5), Slovan Bratislava (1–6) and Sabah (0–4) already carry heavy negative goal difference, which matters later when points are level. Inter lost 2–1 at the Bernabéu and Napoli lost at home, so both sit in the 25–36 band for now. One round of football means little, but the market reacts to it anyway, and that reaction is where Champions League predictions can find an edge.

How the league-phase format changes the betting

The old group stage gave you six matches against three opponents. The league phase gives you eight matches against eight, drawn two from each pot. Every top-pot club therefore meets two fourth-pot clubs, and those fixtures produce the most lopsided prices of the phase.

Mismatches move the value to handicaps. When Bayern host Bodø/Glimt, the home win is priced so short that it offers almost nothing. The question bettors actually face is the margin. Goal difference is the first tiebreaker on points, so a strong side has a reason to keep scoring after the result is settled. That is the case for an Asian handicap of -1.5 or -2 on the favourite rather than the plain result.

Rotation is the counterweight. A club that has already beaten the weakest side in its schedule, or that faces a league fixture three days later, may change several players. Check team news before backing a large handicap. A rotated favourite still tends to win, but the margin is the first thing to shrink.

The top eight and the 9th–24th band are two different races. Finishing in the top eight sends a club straight to the round of 16 in March. Finishing 9th to 24th means two extra matches in February, 16/17 and 23/24 February 2027, and only places 9 to 16 are seeded in that draw. Places 25 to 36 are out, with no fall into the Europa League. So a club sitting 20th has every reason to chase a point, while a club sitting 30th late on may have nothing left to play for.

The last matchday is played at once. UEFA schedules every matchday 8 fixture, on 27 January 2027, to kick off simultaneously. Dead rubbers appear then: a club already through, or already out, facing one with everything on the line. The motivated side is usually the one to back in that spot, and the line often fails to move far enough.

Matchday 2: our Champions League predictions

The fixtures below come from the official UEFA schedule. Kick-off times are UK time (CEST minus one hour). The price column is our own estimate of fair decimal odds for the pick, not a quote from any sportsbook. Treat these Champions League predictions as opinion.

FixtureDate (UK time)Our viewExpected price (estimate)
Viking v Bayern MunichTue 13 Oct, 20:00Bayern -1.5 Asian handicaparound 1.65
Atlético Madrid v Manchester UnitedTue 13 Oct, 20:00Atlético draw no betaround 1.70
Galatasaray v BarcelonaTue 13 Oct, 20:00Both teams to scorearound 1.60
Manchester City v Paris Saint-GermainWed 14 Oct, 20:00Over 2.5 goalsaround 1.65
Roma v Real MadridWed 14 Oct, 20:00Real Madrid or draw (double chance)around 1.45

Three of these ties have full previews: Atlético Madrid v Manchester United, Manchester City v PSG and Roma v Real Madrid.

Viking v Bayern Munich. Viking lost 3–1 in Stuttgart on their league-phase debut; Bayern beat Bodø/Glimt 5–0. This is the clearest mismatch of the round. Our view is that the result market has no value and the -1.5 line is where the bet sits, with the caveat that Bayern may rotate with their own league programme to manage.

Atlético Madrid v Manchester United. Both clubs come in from opposite ends of matchday 1: Atlético lost at Anfield, United beat Sabah 4–0. A home side that lost its opener has more to prove. We prefer Atlético with the draw refunded, rather than a straight home win.

Galatasaray v Barcelona. Barcelona scored five against Feyenoord, but Galatasaray scored in Lisbon even in defeat and play at home in Istanbul. Our pick is goals at both ends rather than a side.

Manchester City v Paris Saint-Germain. The tie of the round between two clubs who both won on matchday 1, Paris by five clear goals. Our view is that both sides attack this one, and over 2.5 goals is a better bet than guessing the winner.

Roma v Real Madrid. Roma drew 1–1 in Istanbul; Real Madrid beat Inter 2–1. We lean towards the away side not losing. Double chance shortens the price, so we only rate it above our estimate.

Outright: who wins the 2027 final in Madrid

The 2027 final is set for Saturday 5 June 2027 at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid, according to UEFA. Before then come seven more league matchdays, the play-offs in February and the round of 16 on 9/10 and 16/17 March 2027.

Champions League odds on the outright market have a long way to run, and one matchday is a weak guide. Our view, and it is only opinion: Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Barcelona looked the most complete sides on matchday 1, and each scored five or more. Of the English clubs, Arsenal and Liverpool both beat strong opponents rather than weak ones, which we rate higher than a big win over a fourth-pot side. Real Madrid have the extra angle of a final in their own city, though they would not play it at home.

Our pick for value is to wait. Champions League predictions on the outright market age quickly. Outright prices on the favourites shorten fastest after the knockout draws, and a top-eight finish removes two rounds of risk. Backing a contender before matchday 8 makes most sense on a club the market has written down after a poor start, not on the clubs already priced as favourites.

Where to watch the Champions League

Matches are shown by national broadcasters that hold UEFA rights in each country, and the rights holder differs from market to market. UEFA's own site carries the full fixture list with kick-off times and match reports.

Some betting sites also show a selection of matches to account holders, usually alongside the live market for that fixture. We list sites where that option exists, but what each one shows depends on the site and on your country, so check the match list before kick-off.

Streams are shown to signed-in accounts on selected events, and the list differs between betting sites and between matches. 18+.

How many matches does each club play in the Champions League league phase?
Eight: four at home and four away, against two opponents from each of the four seeding pots. All 36 clubs sit in one table.
What happens to the clubs that finish 9th to 24th?
They play a two-legged knockout play-off for a place in the round of 16. Clubs from 9th to 16th are seeded in that draw and, in principle, play the return leg at home. The 2026-27 play-offs are scheduled for 16/17 and 23/24 February 2027.
Do clubs eliminated in the league phase drop into the Europa League?
No. Clubs that finish 25th or lower are out of Europe for the season, with no route into the Europa League.
When is the next Champions League matchday?
Matchday 2 is played on Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 October 2026, with matchday 3 following on 20 and 21 October.
Where is the 2027 Champions League final?
At the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid on Saturday 5 June 2027, according to UEFA.
Are your Champions League predictions tips from a bookmaker?
No. They are the editorial view of this site. The prices next to them are our estimates of where the market should sit, not quotes from any operator.
