Paris Saint-Germain won Ligue 1 last season with 76 points, six clear of Lens, for a fifth title in a row and a fourteenth overall. Five rounds into 2026–27 they are sixth. The gap between the richest club in the country and the table it is actually producing is where Ligue 1 predictions earn their keep this autumn: the favourite still carries short prices, and the clubs above it are priced as if the old order will return by Christmas.

The 2026–27 season so far

The season opened on 21 August and finishes on 29 May 2027. Eighteen clubs play 34 rounds each. Troyes and Le Mans came up from Ligue 2, and Metz and Nantes went the other way. The league has not played since 20 September, when matchday 5 closed with PSG winning 2–1 at Marseille.

Table after matchday 5, as it stood on 20 September:

PosClubPWDLGDPts
1Monaco5410+513
2Lyon5320+811
3Paris FC5320+511
4Lille5311+410
5Rennes5311−110
6Paris Saint-Germain5221+18
16Troyes5113−74
17Marseille5104−13
18Le Havre5023−32

Monaco are the only club with four wins, and one of them was a 2–1 result against PSG in round three. Lyon have conceded twice in five matches and have the best goal difference, most of it from a 4–0 win over Rennes last time out. Paris FC are also unbeaten, with two goalless draws, one of them against Lyon.

PSG's start has been loose rather than poor. They drew 2–2 with Rennes and 2–2 with Lille, lost 2–1 to Monaco, then beat Brest 1–0 and Marseille 2–1. Marseille opened with a 4–0 win over Strasbourg and have lost all four matches since. Lens, second last season, have four points and have gone four games without a win.

How Ligue 1 is priced

One club takes most of the money. When PSG play at home, the win price is usually so short that the result market tells you very little; the real question is the margin. That is why the handicap line matters more here than in a league with three or four genuine contenders. PSG on −1.5 needs a win by two clear goals. An Asian line of −1.75 splits the stake: half on −1.5, half on −2, so a two-goal win returns half the stake as a winner and half as a refund.

The other side of the same coin is the chasing pack. Last season the top four all went into the Champions League: PSG, Lens, Lille and Lyon. Fifth and sixth, Marseille and Rennes, went into the Europa League, and Monaco took the Conference League place. That makes “top four” and “top six” markets worth more attention in France than a title market most bookmakers price as a one-horse race.

At the bottom, two clubs go down directly. The club in 16th plays a two-legged play-off against a Ligue 2 side, which is how Nice survived last season, beating Saint-Étienne 4–1 on aggregate. The table after five rounds already separates the two promoted clubs: Troyes are 16th, Le Mans ninth.

Matchday 6 after the international break: our Ligue 1 predictions

The round starts on Friday 9 October and runs to Sunday 11 October. These are our five picks. The prices are our estimate of where each line should open, not a quote from any sportsbook.

FixtureDateOur viewExpected price (estimate)
Lens v LyonFri 9 Oct, 20:45Lyon or draw (double chance)around 1.45
Monaco v ToulouseSat 10 Oct, 20:45Monaco to winaround 1.70
Paris Saint-Germain v Le MansSat 10 Oct, 20:45PSG −1.5 handicaparound 1.70
Lorient v Paris FCSat 10 Oct, 20:45Paris FC, draw no betaround 2.00
Troyes v MarseilleSun 11 Oct, 20:45Marseille to winaround 1.90

Lens v Lyon. Our view: Lyon do not lose. They are second, two points off Monaco, and unbeaten in five, according to the league's own preview. Lens have gone four without a win and are missing Baidoo and Nawrocki through injury. Lyon have won five of the last ten meetings between the clubs. The double chance keeps the draw on our side at a price that still reflects the trip to Bollaert.

Monaco v Toulouse. Our pick: the leaders at home. Monaco have taken 13 points from 15 and conceded three goals. Toulouse have five points and a goal difference of −2. We would rather take Monaco straight than a handicap; their wins this season have come by one or two goals.

Paris Saint-Germain v Le Mans. Our view: PSG by two or more. They arrive on two straight league wins, while Le Mans are three games unbeaten and without the suspended D. Sidibé. PSG have Mayulu injured, with Zaïre-Emery and Hakimi doubtful, which is why we stop at −1.5 rather than a bigger line. If team news clears both doubts, the price will shorten.

Lorient v Paris FC. Our pick: Paris FC with the draw refunded. They have not lost yet and have kept clean sheets in both draws. Lorient have five points from five. Draw no bet suits a side that does not concede much and does not always score.

Troyes v Marseille. Our view: Marseille end the losing run. Four straight defeats look worse in the table than on the pitch: all four came against clubs now in the top six, Monaco, Paris FC, Rennes and PSG. Troyes have conceded eleven; only Auxerre, with twelve, have let in more. Marseille's price will be longer than their squad deserves.

Outrights: title, top three and relegation

What follows is opinion, not a forecast with numbers behind it.

Title. Our pick is still PSG. Five points behind Monaco with 29 rounds left is a small gap for a squad of that depth, and they have already played Monaco, Lille, Rennes and Marseille. The value, if there is any, sits with Monaco at a longer price, because nobody else has started as well.

Top three. Our view: PSG, Monaco and Lyon. Lyon's defence is the best in the league so far, and Lille are the club we would expect to push them. Paris FC's start is real, but we would want to see them through the October and November fixtures before backing them for a top-three finish.

Relegation. Our view: Le Havre and Troyes are the two most likely to go down. Le Havre have not won yet, and Troyes have the worst goal difference. Marseille in 17th is a false reading of a club that should finish in the European places; we would oppose them in any relegation market. Le Mans, the other promoted side, are ninth and three games unbeaten.

Where to watch Ligue 1

In France, the league's own channel, Ligue 1+, shows the matchday 6 games we checked, Lens v Lyon and PSG v Le Mans among them. Outside France the rights sit with national broadcasters, and they differ from country to country, so check your local listings for each round.

Some betting sites also show a share of matches inside a logged-in account. We have picked out sites that offer this, but the range of leagues and games is not the same at any two of them, and Ligue 1 is not always on the list. Check what is shown before relying on it for a particular fixture.

Streams are shown to signed-in accounts on selected events, and the list differs between betting sites and between matches. 18+.

When does Ligue 1 restart after the October international break?
On Friday 9 October 2026, with Lens against Lyon at 20:45 French time. Matchday 6 closes on Sunday 11 October with Troyes against Marseille, also at 20:45.
Who is top of Ligue 1 in 2026-27?
Monaco, with 13 points from five matches and no defeat. Lyon and Paris FC are two points behind on 11, Lille and Rennes have 10, and Paris Saint-Germain are sixth on 8.
How many clubs go down from Ligue 1?
Two go down directly: the clubs finishing 17th and 18th. The 16th-placed club plays a two-legged play-off against a Ligue 2 side. Last season Nice finished 16th and kept their place by beating Saint-Étienne 4-1 on aggregate.
Why bet the handicap rather than the result on PSG?
Because their home price is often too short to be worth a stake on its own. The handicap asks a harder question, whether they win by two or more, and pays a price that reflects it.
Are your Ligue 1 predictions tips I should follow?
They are our opinion and are labelled that way. Every price on this page is our estimate of where the market should open, not a quote from any sportsbook. Stake only what you are prepared to lose.
