MLS 2026: The Run-In, the Playoffs and Where the Value Sits
The 2026 MLS regular season has five weeks left, and the playoff race is wide open below the two leaders. Here is where both conferences stand, what travel, turf and altitude do to the prices, and our view on the next round and the MLS Cup.
MLS is the one major football league where the map matters as much as the table. Thirty clubs spread across the United States and Canada play 34 games each, 17 at home and 17 away, and a team can cross three time zones for a Saturday night kick-off. Our MLS predictions start from that, then look at form and the table.

Where the 2026 season stands
This was a split season. MLS paused from 25 May to 16 July for the World Cup, then resumed, and the regular season ends on Decision Day, Saturday 7 November. After the October international break there are seven matchdays left. The tables below are taken from the league standings as they stood on 5 October.
| Eastern Conference | Played | Points | Western Conference | Played | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Nashville SC | 27 | 60 | 1. Vancouver Whitecaps | 26 | 50 |
| 2. New England Revolution | 27 | 46 | 2. St. Louis CITY SC | 27 | 47 |
| 3. Inter Miami CF | 27 | 46 | 3. FC Dallas | 27 | 47 |
| 4. Charlotte FC | 27 | 43 | 4. San Jose Earthquakes | 27 | 45 |
| 5. Chicago Fire FC | 26 | 42 | 5. Houston Dynamo FC | 27 | 44 |
| 6. Philadelphia Union | 27 | 39 | 6. LAFC | 28 | 41 |
| 7. Orlando City SC | 27 | 34 | 7. Seattle Sounders FC | 27 | 38 |
| 8. Red Bull New York | 27 | 33 | 8. Colorado Rapids | 27 | 36 |
| 9. New York City FC | 27 | 33 | 9. LA Galaxy | 28 | 36 |
Nashville have 18 wins from 27 games and a 14-point lead in the East. On the numbers they are already safe: tenth place cannot reach 60. The fight is lower down. In the East, eighth to tenth are level on 33 points, with FC Cincinnati a game in hand on the two New York clubs. In the West, Portland, Real Salt Lake and San Diego sit on 32, four behind ninth.
The format rewards the top seven. Nine teams qualify from each conference. Seeds eight and nine meet in a one-off wild card match on 18 November, and the higher seed hosts. Round One is a best-of-three series from 20 November to 2 December, with the higher seed at home for games one and three. Conference semi-finals follow on 5 and 6 December, conference finals on 11 and 12 December, and MLS Cup on Friday 18 December, hosted by the finalist with the better regular-season record.
What makes MLS betting different
Travel. The league spans a continent. Vancouver to Miami, or Boston to Los Angeles, is a long flight before a match, and midweek rounds add a second trip within days. For MLS betting this matters most on short turnarounds, such as the 14 October midweek round that follows the 10 October weekend.
Altitude. The Colorado Rapids play at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, just over 5,200 feet above sea level, the highest regular venue in the league. Real Salt Lake's America First Field sits at about 4,450 feet. We give the home team a little extra in those two grounds, and more when the visitor travelled midweek.
Turf. A few clubs play on artificial grass. Portland's Providence Park has a FieldTurf pitch, and Seattle's Lumen Field went back to FieldTurf once its temporary World Cup grass was removed. The ball runs differently on it, and some teams are more at home on it than others. Check line-ups before you bet.
Designated players. MLS caps most salaries, but each club can carry up to three Designated Players whose pay sits above the budget limit, or two plus extra U22 signings. In our view one star can lift an average squad, and when that player is missing the price does not always move far enough.
Parity. The salary rules keep squads close in cost. The table shows it: in the West, six points cover second to sixth. That makes MLS odds on favourites short for what they deliver, and draws worth a look.
Next round: our MLS predictions
Club football returns on Saturday 10 October. These are the five matches we think matter most for the playoff race. The expected price column is our estimate of fair odds, not an operator's quote.
| Fixture | Date | Our view | Expected price (estimate) |
|---|---|---|---|
| LAFC v Vancouver Whitecaps | Sat 10 Oct | Draw | 3.60 |
| Austin FC v Nashville SC | Sat 10 Oct | Nashville or draw | 1.40 |
| Colorado Rapids v San Jose Earthquakes | Sat 10 Oct | Colorado win | 2.20 |
| Charlotte FC v FC Dallas | Sat 10 Oct | Charlotte win | 2.10 |
| St. Louis CITY SC v LA Galaxy | Sun 11 Oct | St. Louis win | 1.85 |
LAFC v Vancouver. The Western leader goes to BMO Stadium with games in hand. LAFC sit sixth and need points to stay in the top seven. Both sides have reasons to avoid defeat, and we think the draw is underpriced.
Austin v Nashville. Nashville have lost three times all season. Austin are thirteenth and fighting for the wild card. We prefer the double chance on the visitors to the straight win.
Colorado v San Jose. This is the altitude match of the round. Colorado are eighth and level on points with the Galaxy. San Jose fly in from the coast. Our view is a home win.
Charlotte v Dallas. Charlotte are fourth in the East and have home advantage in Round One within reach. Dallas are in the same race in the West, but they also face the long trip east. We lean Charlotte.
St. Louis v LA Galaxy. St. Louis are second in the West, the Galaxy ninth with a game more played. Our MLS predictions favour the home side at Energizer Park.

This is opinion, not data. Nashville have the best record in the league by a distance, and if they reach the final they would very likely host it. We make them favourites at an expected price around 4.00. Vancouver are the strongest side in the West on goal difference and have a game in hand; we would put them near 5.00. Inter Miami at around 7.00 is the price we would look at for value, because in our view their squad depth suits a run of best-of-three ties. Our MLS predictions for the final: Nashville v Vancouver, with Nashville winning at home.
Outright prices this far out carry a wide margin. Compare several sites, and read our best odds guide before you commit a stake for ten weeks.

Where to watch MLS
Every MLS match streams on Apple TV, the league's streaming partner, with English and Spanish commentary. In the playoffs, some games also air on national broadcasters: FOX Sports in the United States, and TSN and RDS in Canada.
Some betting sites also stream a share of matches to logged-in account holders. We list the sites that offer this, but which leagues and games they carry varies by site and by country, so check the live section before you rely on it.
