AC Milan v Inter, 31 October 2026: Derby della Madonnina Preview

Form and table before the October break

Rúben Amorim took over Milan in June 2026 and won his first league game, 2–1 at Torino, so this is his first derby in charge. Cristian Chivu leads Inter.

The numbers describe two different teams. Inter's league games have produced 23 goals in five, by our count from the results, an average above four a match. They scored in every one of them, but they also fell 2–0 behind against Napoli, Udinese and Roma in consecutive rounds and came back each time. A side that keeps conceding early and then chasing is exciting to watch and awkward to price.

Milan are steadier. Four conceded in five league games is a record only Roma, Lazio and Cagliari have bettered. Their weak night came in Europe, a 2–0 home defeat by Benfica on 16 September, and their best was the 3–0 against Lecce four days later. At Lazio they also trailed 2–0 at half-time and drew through two goals from Diego Moreira after Amorim changed three players at the break.

The last five derbies

Milan won three and drew two. Go back two more meetings and the run extends: a 2–1 league win in September 2024 and a 3–2 victory in the Supercoppa final in January 2025. Inter's last derby win was on 22 April 2024.

The goals tell a quieter story than this season's form. The last five derbies produced nine goals, under two a game, and both teams scored in only two of them. The two most recent league meetings were each settled by one goal: Christian Pulisic scored the winner in November, when Mike Maignan also saved a Hakan Calhanoglu penalty, and Pervis Estupinan scored the only goal in March. Derbies between these two have been tight even when one side was clearly in better league form.

Team news: what the clubs have confirmed

Everything here was reported between 2 and 6 October. Four league rounds for each club, and two Europa League games for Milan, remain before the derby, so treat this as the starting point, not the final word.

AC Milan. The club confirmed on 5 October that Alexis Saelemaekers's right ankle has lost stability at the site of his 2024 surgery, after an injury in training; a specialist is deciding on treatment and no return date has been given. On the same day Ecuador's coach said Pervis Estupinan had sprained a knee on international duty, with no word on how long he will be out. Estupinan scored the winner in the last derby, so his fitness matters for the left side of Milan's defence.

Inter. Calhanoglu has trained with the group after an adductor injury picked up straight after the Real Madrid match on 8 September, and was expected back for Parma on 10 October. Federico Dimarco left the Italy squad with a knee problem and has been training partly on his own. John Stones, injured in the Udinese win, was the furthest from a return.

No suspensions had been announced for either side when we checked. We will add team news from the final pre-match press conferences, and if a key player is ruled out, the Milan vs Inter prediction below will be revised.

How we expect the market to price the derby

We do not quote sportsbook odds in any Milan vs Inter prediction. The prices below are our estimates of where a fair market should sit on 6 October; compare them with what you are offered. The odds calculator turns any of them into an implied probability.

Our reading is that the market will make Inter slight favourites despite playing away, because of the champions' attack and the league table. The derby record points the other way. When two sides are this close, the draw carries real weight, and draw-no-bet or the half-goal handicap is the cleaner way to back a view on one team.

On goals, this season and the recent derbies disagree. Inter's games are averaging more than four goals and both teams have scored in four of their five league matches. Milan's league games average 2.8 goals and both teams scored in three of them. The last five derbies averaged 1.8. Our Milan vs Inter prediction

Our view, and it is only that: AC Milan +0.5 on the Asian handicap, which pays if Milan win or draw, at an expected price of around 1.60 (our estimate).

The reasoning is the derby record and the defensive numbers together. Milan have conceded four in five league games and none in the last two derbies. Inter keep falling behind, and a home side that has beaten them twice by one goal is not the one we want to oppose. A straight Milan win is the riskier version of the same view; this Milan vs Inter prediction leaves the draw on our side because a level derby is a realistic result.

The backup is both teams to score, Yes, at around 1.80 (our estimate). Inter have scored in every league game and Milan in every league game, and Inter's defence has conceded in four of five.
