Alexander Zverev betting profile: two majors in 2026, Melbourne still missing
Alexander Zverev won Roland-Garros and the US Open in 2026 and reached the Wimbledon final, the best Slam year of his career. Melbourne is the major he has come closest to without winning. Here is his record, his surfaces and our view of his Australian Open 2027 chances.
Alexander Zverev finally has the majors his ranking always suggested. In 2026 he won in Paris and New York, reached his first Wimbledon final and climbed to within 1,280 points of the top spot. Yet the Australian Open, where he has been a finalist once and a semi-finalist three times, is still missing, and the two players he keeps losing to will both be in the Melbourne draw if fit.

Record
For years the story was finals lost. Wikipedia's list of his major finals shows the 2020 US Open to Dominic Thiem from two sets up, Roland-Garros 2024 to Carlos Alcaraz in five, and the 2025 Australian Open to Sinner in straight sets. In 2026 the pattern finally broke, twice.
| Date | Event | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 30 January | Australian Open | Semi-final, lost to Alcaraz 4–6 6–7(5) 7–6(3) 7–6(4) 5–7 |
| May | Madrid Open | Final, lost to Sinner 1–6 2–6 |
| 7 June | Roland-Garros | Won, beat Flavio Cobolli 6–1 4–6 6–4 6–7(5) 6–1 |
| June | Halle | Lost to Taylor Fritz |
| 12 July | Wimbledon | Final, lost to Sinner 7–6(7) 6–7(2) 3–6 4–6 |
| September | US Open | Won, beat Ben Shelton 6–3 7–6(2) 5–7 6–2 |
| 4 October | China Open, Beijing | Quarter-final, lost to Novak Djokovic 6–4 4–6 4–6 |
The Melbourne semi-final deserves a second look. It lasted five hours and 27 minutes, the longest semi-final the tournament has staged, and Zverev came back from two sets down to lead 5–3 in the fifth. Alcaraz won the last four games. In New York, as top seed with Sinner absent, Zverev beat Karen Khachanov and then Shelton to take the title.
What is known about Alexander Zverev
At 1.98 m he builds his game on the serve. He hit 19 aces in the Beijing quarter-final and made 76 per cent of his first serves in the Wimbledon final, numbers the ATP recorded in its match reports. From the back of the court his two-handed backhand is the steadier wing.
His career figures by surface:
- Clay: 189–66, a 74 per cent win rate, his best surface and where both his Paris final appearances came.
- Hard: 335–147, 70 per cent, with the US Open title and the 2025 Melbourne final.
- Grass: 54–25, 68 per cent. Before 2026 he had never gone beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon.
The weakness is narrow but costly. Against Sinner he trails 4–11 and has lost the last ten, five of them in 2026. Against Alcaraz the record is close, 6–7 after Melbourne, and almost every meeting has been long. Outside those two, nobody beat him at a major in 2026.
Australian Open 2027: chances and why
Melbourne Park hosts the 2027 event from 11 to 31 January, with the main draw beginning on 17 January, on cushion acrylic hard courts. The tournament page has the dates, the 2026 champions and our outright notes.
Our estimate: 13 per cent, fair odds of about 7.7. That is our estimate, not a bookmaker price.
The reasons behind the number:
- He keeps getting deep. Final in 2025, semi-finals in 2020, 2024 and 2026. Few players reach the last four as often.
- Two majors in a season. The step from contender to champion has been made, and that should help in tight fifth sets.
- The serve suits the courts. Hard courts reward a big first delivery, and his hard-court record backs it up.
- The problem is who stands in the way. Ten straight losses to Sinner and a 6–7 record against Alcaraz mean a likely semi-final or final against one of them is close to a coin flip at best.
- Draw dependence. If one of those two is absent, his chance rises sharply. Watch the entry list in December.
Alexander Zverev is the player we would consider each way rather than to win outright, especially if the price drifts above our fair figure. Our each way calculator shows how a place-only finish pays.

Outright. As a top-three seed he is likely to sit third or fourth in the betting, behind the two players who beat him in 2026. That gap is where any value lies.
Match winner. Early-round lines on him are short. They become interesting only in the second week, against seeded opponents.
Handicap by games. His matches against top-ten players often run long, and lines such as Zverev +3.5 games against a favourite can win even when he loses in four sets. The handicap betting guide sets out how a games line is settled.
Set betting. Five of his six major finals have gone to four or five sets. In big matches 3–1 and 3–2 outcomes deserve more weight than straight sets.
Aces and total games. Where a site offers player aces, his serve makes the over the natural angle. Total games over is the matching bet for his long matches against the top two.
Read the profiles of the two men above and below him in this market: Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Rules on retirements and other basics sit on the tennis hub.
Where to watch
Coverage of the Australian Open is sold territory by territory, so the national broadcaster that holds the rights in your country is the dependable way to watch. The official tournament website carries the draw, scores and order of play.
A number of betting sites show some tennis live to logged-in customers. Not every site we list does it, and among those that do, the matches on offer depend on the event and on where you are. Look at what your account shows before Zverev's first match.
