Carlos Alcaraz betting profile: odds and form before he defends the title in Melbourne
Carlos Alcaraz won the Australian Open in February to complete the career Grand Slam, then missed Roland-Garros and Wimbledon. He is No.3 in the rankings, back on court and playing for a title in Tokyo. This profile covers his record, surfaces and our view of his defence in January.
Carlos Alcaraz goes to Melbourne in January as the holder, and his ranking undersells him. He won the 2026 Australian Open, completing the career Grand Slam at 22, but then sat out Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, and the points from those events are gone. He is third on the ATP list, back to winning matches in Asia, and the most decorated player in the men's top three. That gap between ranking and record is what makes Carlos Alcaraz odds worth reading closely this autumn.

Carlos Alcaraz at a glance
| Born | 5 May 2003, El Palmar, Murcia, Spain |
| Age | 23 |
| Country | Spain |
| Plays | Right-handed, two-handed backhand |
| Height | 1.83 m |
| Coach | Samuel López |
| ATP ranking (5 October 2026) | No.3, 5,260 points |
| Weeks at No.1 | 66; year-end No.1 in 2022 and 2025 |
| Grand Slam titles | 7 |
| Other big titles | Eight Masters 1000 events, Olympic silver in Paris 2024 |
The ranking figure is the one to treat with care. Jannik Sinner leads on 11,000 and Alexander Zverev has 9,720, so Alcaraz is a long way back on points. On results at the majors he is the man with the most titles of the three.
Record
Seven majors by 23, with at least one title at each of the four. The order: US Open 2022, Wimbledon 2023 and 2024, Roland-Garros 2024 and 2025, US Open 2025, and the Australian Open in 2026. His only lost major final was Wimbledon 2025, to Sinner. Wikipedia's statistics page puts his Slam match record at 95–14.
The 2026 season was split by a long gap between April and late August.
| Date | Event | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 30 January | Australian Open | Semi-final, beat Zverev 6–4 7–6(5) 6–7(3) 6–7(4) 7–5 |
| 1 February | Australian Open | Won, beat Novak Djokovic 2–6 6–2 6–3 7–5 |
| February | Qatar Open, Doha | Won, beat Arthur Fils 6–2 6–1 |
| April | Monte-Carlo | Final, lost to Sinner 6–7(5) 3–6 |
| May-June | Roland-Garros | Did not play |
| July | Wimbledon | Did not play |
| September | US Open | Quarter-final, lost to Ben Shelton |
| 5 October | Japan Open, Tokyo | Reached the final, beating Jaume Munar 5–7 6–3 6–1 |
The Melbourne semi-final is the match that defines his Australian record. It ran five hours and 27 minutes, the longest semi-final the event has had. Two sets up, he let Zverev level, then trailed 3–5 in the fifth before taking four games running. Two days later he beat Djokovic from a set down. Before 2026 he had not passed the quarter-finals in Melbourne.
The Tokyo final against Jiří Lehečka had not been played when this page was written. He is also entered at Shanghai, which starts on 7 October.
What is known about Carlos Alcaraz
Wikipedia sums up his game in two words: aggressive, with varied shotmaking. That variety is part of why his matches swing, and why set and game markets on him can behave differently from those on more uniform players.
Win rates by surface from his career statistics:
- Grass: 35–4, 90 per cent, two Wimbledon titles and a final.
- Clay: 108–20, 84 per cent.
- Hard: 163–45, 78 per cent, the lowest of his three, but still with two US Open titles and now Melbourne.
Hard courts are relatively his weakest ground, which sounds odd for a reigning Australian Open champion until you see that his Melbourne record before 2026 was a second round, a third round and two quarter-finals.
Head-to-heads favour him. He leads Sinner 10–7, and 7–3 on hard courts, although Sinner won their Monte-Carlo final in April. Against Zverev he leads 7–6 after that semi-final, and their matches tend to be long.
Carlos Alcaraz odds for the Shanghai Masters
The next event that moves his prices is Shanghai, a hard-court Masters 1000 with a 96-player draw, from 7 to 18 October. Alcaraz is entered. Jannik Sinner withdrew on 3 October, which takes out the man who beat him in their last meeting and who won five Masters titles in a row this spring. First comes the Tokyo final against Jiří Lehečka, where Alcaraz is the defending champion and leads their head-to-head 3–1; Lehečka's one win came in the 2025 Doha quarter-finals.
Our estimate, not a bookmaker price: about 26 per cent to win Shanghai, fair odds of roughly 3.85. What sets the number:
- Sinner is out. The strongest hard-court player of the year is not in the draw.
- A final again. Reaching the Tokyo final for the second year running suggests the level is returning after the summer.
- Hard courts. His lowest win rate of the three surfaces, and the surface on which Ben Shelton beat him at the US Open.
- The schedule. Shanghai begins on 7 October, straight after the Tokyo week, and a Masters title takes a long run of matches with little rest at the start.
Our view: Carlos Alcaraz odds shorter than about 3.85 for the title would not interest us. A price on him to reach the final asks less of a player still playing his way back.
Carlos Alcaraz odds for the Australian Open 2027
The 2027 tournament is set for Melbourne Park from 11 to 31 January, main draw from 17 January, on cushion acrylic hard courts. See our Melbourne preview for the format and the women's field.
Our estimate: 28 per cent, fair odds of about 3.6. This is our estimate, not a bookmaker price.
What drives it:
- He holds the title. He has shown he can win seven best-of-five matches on these courts, including the longest semi-final in the event's history.
- Head-to-head edge. Positive records against both Sinner and Zverev, the two men most likely to meet him in the last four.
- Back in the winning column. A Tokyo final in October suggests the gap of the summer is behind him, though one week in Asia is a small sample.
- Seeding risk. As No.3 he could be drawn in the same half as Sinner, which lowers his chance of reaching the final compared with a top-two seed.
- Missed months. He played little between April and the US Open, and the quarter-final defeat in New York shows the level was not yet back.
Our figure sits just below the 29 per cent we give Sinner, and his price is the one we would watch most closely through the rest of the autumn.

Outright. Carlos Alcaraz odds will be near the top of the market. The value question is whether sites price him on the ranking or on the Slam record; a price longer than our fair 3.6 would be worth a look. To translate any price into a probability, use the odds calculator.
Match winner. Short in the first week, as for every top seed. On its own the match line offers little until the second week.
Handicap by games. Because his matches swing, a games handicap on Alcaraz is riskier than on steadier players. A line like -7.5 can fall short even in a four-set win. The handicap betting guide explains how a games line is settled.
Set betting. He dropped sets in both the 2026 semi-final and final, against Zverev and Djokovic. Against top-ten players, 3–1 is often the better price than 3–0.
Total games. His Melbourne semi-final was a reminder that the over can land in a big way when two players of his level meet.
Compare him with his two closest rivals: Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev. The tennis hub explains the general markets and how retirements are settled.
Where to watch
Australian Open rights are handled country by country, so look to the national broadcaster in your territory for live coverage. The official tournament website has the draw, results and the daily schedule.
Several of the sportsbooks we compare offer live video of some tennis once you are logged in. It is not universal: some sites carry a wide spread of tour matches, some carry almost none, and availability shifts with your location. Confirm what you can see before Alcaraz begins his defence.
