Novak Djokovic betting profile: Beijing final, Shanghai and the rivals

Novak Djokovic is 39, ranked eleventh and without a title in 2026, yet he is one match from his seventh Beijing crown. This profile covers his record, the season so far, the two rivalries that set his prices and what we think he is worth this week.

Novak Djokovic has not won a title in 2026, he dropped out of the top ten after the US Open, and he is 39. He is also one win from his seventh China Open, a tournament where he has never lost a match. That gap between the season and the venue is what makes Novak Djokovic odds hard to set this week: the Beijing final against Alex de Minaur is on 6 October, and the Shanghai Masters starts the next day.

Career singles record1181–240

The ranking is the number to keep in mind. Seeded outside the top eight, he can now meet one of the leading seeds in the last sixteen of a big event rather than the quarter-finals. In Shanghai his projected opponent at that stage is the seventh seed, Frances Tiafoe.

Record

The career line needs little explanation: 24 majors, 40 Masters titles, seven ATP Finals titles and the 2024 Olympic gold. What matters for prices is the last two seasons. In 2025 he won Geneva for his 100th title and Athens for his 101st, and lost Slam semi-finals to Sinner twice and Alcaraz once.

2026 has been uneven. He has played little, lost early several times, and still produced two of the best wins of anyone's year.

The Melbourne final was his first defeat in eleven Australian Open finals. The US Open loss was the first time since 2006 that he went out in his opening match at a major, and it pushed him out of the top ten for the first time since June 2018. Before the Beijing semi-final, the ATP's win-loss index had him at 17–7 for the year.

What is known about Novak Djokovic

Wikipedia describes an aggressive baseliner whose backhand is widely rated the best two-hander the game has seen, with the down-the-line backhand as his best single shot. The return is the other weapon: he regularly ranks among the tour leaders in return games and break points won, and his reach and flexibility mean he is rarely aced. The site also notes that he has led the ATP's career Under Pressure Rating, partly because of how often he wins deciding sets.

For anyone reading Novak Djokovic odds, three things follow.

  • Big servers suit him less than they used to, but he still breaks them. The Zverev quarter-final in Beijing went three sets and Djokovic called it one of his two best matches of the year.
  • Deciding sets are his ground. Both his big 2026 wins, over Sinner in Melbourne and Auger-Aliassime at Wimbledon, went five.
  • Bad days now happen. Losses to Fonseca from two sets up, to Tirante and to Navone show the floor is lower than it was.

Djokovic Alcaraz odds: a 5–5 rivalry

The head-to-head is level at five wins each after Melbourne. The split is the useful part: Alcaraz has won all three of their major finals, at Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024 and in Melbourne this year, while Djokovic took the 2024 Olympic final and the 2025 Australian Open quarter-final. Over best-of-five in a final, the market has good reason to make Alcaraz favourite. Our Carlos Alcaraz profile covers his side. They are in opposite halves in Shanghai, so a meeting there could only come in the final.

Djokovic Sinner odds: who has the edge now

Sinner leads 7–5 on the ATP count. Djokovic won their first three meetings; Sinner beat him in straight sets in the 2025 semi-finals at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon; Djokovic ended that run in five sets in Melbourne in January. Sinner answered at Wimbledon in July without dropping a set. The Jannik Sinner profile explains why Sinner is out of Shanghai.

China Open final: chances and why

Our estimate: Djokovic 63 per cent, fair odds about 1.59; de Minaur 37 per cent, about 2.70. This is our estimate, not a bookmaker price.

  1. The venue. 33 wins from 33 matches in Beijing and six titles from six finals.
  2. Head-to-head. Djokovic leads de Minaur 3–1 going into the final.
  3. A short semi-final for both. Djokovic's ended by default in the second set; de Minaur's ended when Hubert Hurkacz retired at 6–4 3–2. Neither man has the excuse of a long match the day before.
  4. The case against. De Minaur's speed and consistency take away the short points Djokovic now relies on more than he did, and Djokovic's 2026 record shows he can lose to players ranked well below him.

For Shanghai, he is the tenth seed with a bye and will meet Hurkacz or James Duckworth in his first match. He has won the event four times, most recently in 2018, and holds the record for match wins there with 43. Zverev is the top seed in his half, so Novak Djokovic odds for the title should sit behind Zverev and Alcaraz. Our estimate for the Shanghai title: 9 per cent, fair odds about 11.0. Again, ours, not a bookmaker quote.

How to bet on Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic odds on the match winner are only one way to back him, and at his age the other markets often say more.

  • Match winner. Convert any price with our odds calculator and set it against our 63 per cent. Shorter than about 1.59 has no value on our numbers.
  • Set betting. In best-of-three finals, 2–1 to Djokovic is worth a look against an opponent who can extend rallies. His quarter-final with Zverev this week needed a deciding set.
  • Game handicaps. A line such as Djokovic -3.5 games asks for a clear win. Our handicap betting guide explains the settlement.
  • Outrights. Shanghai and, later, the Australian Open are the obvious long-range bets, given his ten Melbourne titles. Comparing Novak Djokovic odds across several sites matters most here, because outright margins are wide.
  • Retirement rules. Sites settle a match differently when a player retires or is defaulted. The tennis hub sets out the common rules, and the Medvedev default this week is a reminder to read them.

Where to watch

Beijing and Shanghai are shown by the broadcasters that hold ATP rights in each country, and the tour's own streaming service carries matches in many markets. Scores and the order of play are on the tournament websites.

Some betting sites also show tennis inside the account to customers who are logged in. We picked out sites with that feature, but the number of ATP matches each one carries is not the same, and your country can change what you see. Check before you rely on it for the final, and compare Novak Djokovic odds on the same screen before the first ball.

Streams are shown to signed-in accounts on selected events, and the list differs between betting sites and between matches. 18+.
