Jannik Sinner betting profile: the world No.1 and his odds before Melbourne 2027

Jannik Sinner is the ATP No.1 and a two-time Australian Open champion, but he has not played since winning Wimbledon in July. This profile sets out his titles, his 2026 Slams, how he plays on each surface and what we think his chances are in Melbourne.

Jannik Sinner starts the build-up to Melbourne as world No.1 and the only man in the top three who has won the Australian Open twice. The complication for anyone pricing him is the calendar: he lifted the Wimbledon trophy on 12 July and has not hit a ball on tour since, missing the US Open, Beijing and now Shanghai. Jannik Sinner odds for January will depend on how and when he comes back.

The ranking gap matters for January. On the ATP table of 5 October, Alexander Zverev sits second on 9,720 points, close enough that the year-end No.1 is still open while Sinner stays away from the court.

Record

Five majors in three seasons is the headline. Sinner won Melbourne in 2024 and 2025, took the US Open in 2024, and has won Wimbledon in each of the last two years. Across his Slam career Wikipedia's statistics page gives him 100 wins and 22 defeats.

His 2026 season reads like two different years. From March to July he was almost unbeatable, and then he stopped.

That run of five Masters titles in a row completed what the ATP calls the Career Golden Masters, every one of the nine events. His record for the year stands at 44–3, with the other defeat coming against Jakub Menšík in Doha. The US Open was the first major he had missed since his Slam debut in 2019.

What is known about Jannik Sinner

Wikipedia describes him as an aggressive baseliner, and the numbers it quotes back that up: his two-handed backhand produces more topspin than any other on the tour, at an average of 1,858 revolutions per minute. He takes the ball early and makes opponents defend from the first shot.

The surface split from his career statistics shows where that game is worth most.

SurfaceCareer win-lossWin rate
Hard246–5482%
Grass36–1078%
Clay83–2577%

Hard courts are his home ground, which is the first thing to know about Melbourne. Grass has become nearly as strong: two Wimbledon titles in a row, with only one break point faced across the 2026 final. Clay is the weak side by comparison, and Roland-Garros 2026, where he went out in the second round as top seed, is the result bettors remember.

Two rivalries shape his prices. Against Zverev he leads 11–4 and has won the last ten, 17 of their last 18 sets by the ATP's count. Against Alcaraz the story is different: Alcaraz leads 10–7 overall and 7–3 on hard courts, although Sinner won their only meeting of 2026, the Monte-Carlo final.

Jannik Sinner odds for the Australian Open 2027

He has not said when he will play again. As of 3 October he was on the entry list for Vienna, from 26 October to 1 November, he is the defending champion at the Paris Masters from 2 to 8 November, and he has already qualified for the ATP Finals in Turin, which run from 15 to 22 November. Until he plays a match, Jannik Sinner odds for any event carry a question mark that the ranking does not show. Our ATP Finals odds page covers the groups.

The tournament runs at Melbourne Park from 11 to 31 January 2027, with the main draw starting on 17 January, and is played on cushion acrylic hard courts. Our full preview, with the 2026 champions and outright notes, is on the Australian Open 2027 page.

Our estimate: 29 per cent, fair odds of about 3.45. This is our estimate, not a bookmaker price, and it assumes he is fit to play the full fortnight.

Why we rate him close to the top of the market:

  1. Melbourne record. Champion in 2024 and 2025 and a semi-finalist in 2026, losing only in five sets to Djokovic.
  2. Hard-court base. An 82 per cent career win rate on the surface, his best of the three.
  3. Form before the break. Six titles and a 44–3 record before the break.
  4. Head-to-heads. Ten straight wins over Zverev take a lot of risk out of a possible late-round meeting.
  5. The gap since July. This is the case against. A player returning after six months away is hard to price, and we have shaded his figure down for it.

If he plays an event or two before Melbourne and wins matches there, we would move him to the front of our list. If he arrives without a competitive match, the risk in the first week grows.

Sinner Alcaraz odds: what the head-to-head says

The match the market most wants to price in 2027 is Sinner against Alcaraz. Alcaraz leads their rivalry 10–7, and the split by surface explains why the prices for their meetings move with the venue.

SurfaceHead-to-headAhead
Hard7–3Alcaraz
Clay3–2Alcaraz
Grass2–0Sinner

Their only meeting of 2026 was the Monte-Carlo final, which Sinner won 7–6(5) 6–3. Alcaraz is entered at Shanghai and Sinner has withdrawn, so there will be no meeting there.

Our estimate, not a bookmaker price, for a meeting on a Melbourne hard court: Alcaraz 52%, Sinner 48%, fair decimal prices of about 1.92 and 2.08. The hard-court record points to Alcaraz. Sinner's results from March to July point the other way, and the months he has missed since tip us, narrowly, towards Alcaraz. On grass we would make Sinner the favourite; on clay, Alcaraz.

Jannik Sinner odds against Alcaraz are the price we expect to move most this winter. If he comes back in Vienna or Paris and wins matches, we would shift our figure towards him. Alcaraz's side of the rivalry is on his own profile.

How to bet on Jannik Sinner

Outright. Backing him to win the tournament is the simple way in. Compare Jannik Sinner odds across sites, because the margin in a 128-player market is wide. If you want to check what a price implies, our odds calculator turns it into a percentage you can set against our 29.

Match winner. In the early rounds Jannik Sinner odds will often be so short that the match line is of little use on its own. That is where the next two markets earn their place.

Handicap by games. A line such as Sinner -6.5 games asks him to win by seven or more games across the match. In best-of-five tennis a straight-sets win usually clears that, but a lost set or two tiebreaks can leave it short. Our handicap betting guide explains how these lines are settled.

Set betting. The correct score in sets: 3–0, 3–1 or 3–2. Against lower-ranked players 3–0 is the obvious choice; against a fellow top-ten player a four-set result often carries better value.

Total games. Long matches favour the over. His 2026 Wimbledon final ran to three hours 46 minutes and four sets, and the AO semi-final against Djokovic went the full five.

Two rival profiles complete the picture: Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz. Retirement rules and other tennis basics are on our tennis betting hub.

Where to watch

The Australian Open sells its rights market by market, so the reliable route is the national broadcaster that holds them where you live, alongside the tournament's own website for the draw, scores and order of play.

Some sportsbooks also carry live pictures of selected tennis for customers who are signed in. The sites we list differ on this: a few show plenty of tour matches, others show very little, and what you get can change with your country. Check the coverage on your account before the first round.

Streams are shown to signed-in accounts on selected events, and the list differs between betting sites and between matches. 18+.
