Canelo Álvarez Against M'billi: The Comeback Fight and How We Price It
Canelo Álvarez returns on 31 October in Riyadh against the unbeaten WBC super middleweight champion Christian M'billi, his first fight since losing his undisputed titles to Terence Crawford. Here is his record, why his fights now go to the judges, and our estimate of the fair price.
Canelo Álvarez boxes again on Saturday 31 October 2026, at The Venue in Riyadh, against Christian M'billi for the WBC super middleweight title. It is his first fight since 13 September 2025, when Terence Crawford took all four of his belts on a unanimous decision, and the first time in years that he walks in as the challenger rather than the champion. That is why the Canelo odds for this fight are more interesting than usual: the market has to weigh a famous record against age, a long layoff and an opponent who has never lost. Our Canelo v M'billi preview takes the fight market by market.

Record: eight fights, eight scorecards
Sixty-eight fights in all. The table covers the period that matters for current prices, newest first.
| Date | Opponent | Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 13 Sep 2025 | Terence Crawford | Lost, unanimous decision | 116–112, 115–113, 115–113; lost undisputed titles |
| 3 May 2025 | William Scull | Won, unanimous decision | Riyadh; regained the IBF belt |
| 14 Sep 2024 | Edgar Berlanga | Won, unanimous decision | Knockdown in round 3 |

| 30 Sep 2023 | Jermell Charlo | Won, unanimous decision | Knockdown in round 7 |
| 6 May 2023 | John Ryder | Won, unanimous decision | Estadio Akron, Zapopan |
| 17 Sep 2022 | Gennady Golovkin | Won, unanimous decision | Third meeting |
| 7 May 2022 | Dmitry Bivol | Lost, unanimous decision | 115–113 on all three cards, at light heavyweight |
| 6 Nov 2021 | Caleb Plant | Won, TKO round 11 | Last stoppage win |
The pattern is the single most useful fact for anyone reading Canelo odds or pricing his betting markets. Since the Plant stoppage, every fight has gone twelve rounds. He still drops opponents, Charlo, Munguía and Berlanga all went down, but none of them was stopped. The other side of it matters as much: Canelo has never been stopped either. Mayweather beat him on a majority decision in 2013, Bivol and Crawford on unanimous ones.
The Scull fight shows how low the output can go. CompuBox tracked 445 punches thrown in twelve rounds, the fewest for a twelve-round fight in its forty-year history, and Canelo threw only 152 of them. Against Crawford, CompuBox had Crawford ahead 115–99 in punches landed and 45–16 in jabs, while Canelo led 83–70 in power punches.
What is known about Canelo
Wikipedia's summary of his style describes an excellent counterpuncher who finds openings in the guard and avoids shots with head and body movement, and a formidable body puncher. Bivol said after their fight that Canelo had hit his arms rather than his head, the same tactic he had used against Callum Smith. That style wins rounds without forcing stoppages, and it explains the run of decisions and why we read Canelo odds for a knockout with caution despite 39 career knockouts.
The weaknesses are age, inactivity and volume. He is 36, he will have been out of the ring for more than thirteen months, and in his last two fights the opponent threw more. When a younger, busier fighter keeps the jab working, judges have gone against him: Bivol and Crawford both won that way.
Christian M'billi: the other side of the price
M'billi, born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, and boxing for France, is 29–0–1 with 24 knockouts. He is 31, stands 5 ft 8½ in with a 72-inch reach, and fights under the nickname Solide. He knocked out Maciej Sulęcki in the first round in June 2025 to win the WBC interim title, then drew with Lester Martínez on a split decision on the Canelo-Crawford undercard. In January 2026 the WBC promoted him to full champion after Crawford vacated the belt.
One line of his record matters for the round markets. In thirty professional fights, M'billi has never boxed beyond round ten. His only twelve-round booking ended in the first.
Canelo vs M'billi: chances and why
Our estimate, not a bookmaker price: Canelo 56%, a fair price of about 1.79; M'billi 41%, about 2.44; the draw 3%, about 33.0. Real Canelo odds will be shorter on both sides once the margin is added. The odds calculator converts any quoted pair into probabilities so you can compare them with ours.
Why we make Canelo the favourite:
- Twelve-round experience. Canelo has gone the full twelve in eight straight fights; M'billi has never seen round eleven.
- Never stopped. Sixty-eight fights without a stoppage loss limits M'billi's main route to winning.
- Class of opposition. Canelo's three defeats came against Mayweather, Bivol and Crawford. M'billi's best results are a ten-round decision over Sergiy Derevyanchenko and a draw with Martínez.
Why the price is not shorter:
- Age and the layoff. First fight in thirteen months, at 36, after a clear defeat.
- Output. If M'billi stays busy, the scoring pattern of the Bivol and Crawford fights could repeat.
- Power. Twenty-four knockouts in twenty-nine wins; whether that power lasts past round ten is a question nobody has answered yet.
Our view on method: the fight goes the distance a little over half the time, with Canelo on points the single most likely outcome.

Every market is explained on our boxing betting guide. Applied to this fight:
- Moneyline. The plain win, and the first of the Canelo odds most sites show. Note whether the draw is a separate outcome; Canelo has two draws in his career, including the first Golovkin fight.
- Method of victory. With eight decisions in a row, the Canelo-on-points price is where his record points. Canelo inside the distance is the longer number, and it has not landed since 2021.
- Goes the distance. Our view leans yes, but less strongly than his record alone suggests, because M'billi's knockout rate suggests he will look for exchanges.
- Round groups for M'billi. If you think he wins early, bands such as rounds one to four carry less risk than a single round.
Canelo fight odds move most in fight week. Weigh-in weights and any change to the date matter, and this card has already moved once, from 12 September.
Where to watch
The promoters have announced the card as a DAZN pay-per-view, part of the Riyadh Season “Mexico vs. The World” event; availability and price differ by country. Some betting sites also stream boxing inside the account, more often undercard bouts than the main event, and we chose sites where that feature exists. Coverage changes from card to card, so check on the night.
Other fighters in this series: Jake Paul held talks with Canelo in early 2025 before Canelo signed with Riyadh Season, and David Benavidez twice held the WBC super middleweight title that M'billi now defends.
