Ethan Arnold: NRG's Captain and the Only Two-Time Valorant Champion
Ethan Arnold has won Valorant Champions twice, once with Evil Geniuses and once with NRG. He leads the defending champions into the Shanghai playoffs, which start on 7 October 2026. Here is his record, his role, what NRG's 2026 results say and how we rate their chances.

Ethan Arnold is the captain of NRG and the only player who has won Valorant Champions twice: in 2023 with Evil Geniuses and in 2025 with NRG. He brings the defending champions into the Shanghai playoffs, where NRG face T1 on 7 October after topping Group D. Anyone pricing NRG at this event should start with him, because his calls and his utility decide more of their rounds than his kill count does.

Before Valorant he was a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive professional with NRG and Evil Geniuses. He switched games in 2021 and has not left the top flight of North American Valorant since.

NRG beat FNATIC in the 2025 final, holding off a comeback from two maps down. In Shanghai they have played two series and won both: 2–0 against Nongshim RedForce (Lotus 13–5, Split 13–10) and 2–1 against Karmine Corp after dropping Ascent 7–13 and taking Summit 13–11 and Haven 13–9.
What is known about Ethan
He is a support player who wins with utility. Over the last 90 days VLR.gg has him on KAY/O in 14 of his maps, with a rating of 1.15 and 80% of rounds in which he got a kill, an assist, survived or was traded. Fade, Omen and Phoenix make up most of the rest, so NRG can move him between roles when the map asks for it.
Assists are his trademark. Liquipedia credits him with 367 assists in the 2023 Americas League, the most in that season. That fits the role: flashes and recon set up the entry, and the kills go to someone else.
He is the team's voice. He is listed as NRG's captain, and four of the five who won in 2025 are still in the side: him, mada, brawk and skuba, with keiko as the fifth player and bonkar still head coach. Continuity is worth something in a best-of-five final.
The weakness is the last step. NRG finished third four times in 2026 and second once. In the Americas Stage 2 playoffs they lost 0–2 to 100 Thieves (Abyss 3–13, Sunset 6–13) and then 2–3 to LOUD, both teams that are also in this bracket. His own numbers dipped in those losses, with ratings of 0.60 and 0.61 on two of the LOUD maps.

Valorant Champions 2026: chances and why

- They are the holders, with the same core. No other team in the bracket has as many players who have already won this event.
- Their floor is high. Top three at five of their six events this year, including second at the Esports World Cup, describes a side that rarely falls apart.
- Their ceiling has dipped. They have not won an event in 2026, and the two Americas sides that beat them in September are both still alive here.
- The draw is fair. T1 went through Group A the long way, losing 0–2 to 100 Thieves before winning two elimination matches.
- Double elimination helps a steady team. A loss to T1 would send NRG to the lower bracket, not home, and the lower final and grand final are best-of-five.
How to bet on Ethan and NRG
Most of the money on him goes through NRG's markets, because a captain who plays initiator rarely tops the kill chart.
- Match winner against T1, and later in the bracket. Convert any price to a probability with the odds calculator and compare it with your own number.
- Map handicap. NRG -1.5 maps pays only on a 2–0; +1.5 covers a 1–2 defeat. The handicap betting guide shows how both settle.
- Map winner after the veto. Their recent losses came on Abyss, Sunset and Lotus; their Shanghai wins came on Lotus, Split, Summit and Haven. Wait for the veto before betting single maps.
