Rory McIlroy goes for a third Green Jacket in a row: form and odds

Record

The Masters was the only title Rory McIlroy won in 2026. Around it he was steady rather than dominant.

The Masters win itself had two halves. He opened 67 and 65 for a six-shot lead after 36 holes, a tournament record that beat the five-shot margin Harry Cooper set in 1936. Then he shot 73 on Saturday, three over par through Amen Corner, and was caught by Cameron Young. On Sunday he made a double bogey at the 4th after a three-putt, recovered with birdies at the 7th and 8th, and pulled away with birdies at the 12th and 13th.

His Augusta record overall: 18 starts since his debut in 2009, 15 cuts made, two wins, a second place in 2022 and nine top-ten finishes. Three missed cuts sit in the same record, the latest in 2023.

What is known about McIlroy's game

Length. He has been among the longest drivers in the professional game for his whole career despite standing 5 ft 9 in. Wikipedia puts his ball speed at over 190 mph as of 2025. PGA Tour figures before the 2026 Tour Championship had him second in driving distance at 330.0 yards and second in strokes gained off the tee.

Overall level. He ranked third on tour in strokes gained total in 2026, at 1.394 per round, behind Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Where the shots leak. The same figures show the rest of his game further down the list: 33rd in approach play, 63rd around the green, 38th in putting and 55th in greens in regulation. Driving carries him; when the irons are off, the scores follow. His putting coach since 2018 has been Brad Faxon. After Wentworth in September he said he wished he had some of his putts back.

Majors after April. A tie for seventh at the PGA Championship was followed by a tie for 32nd at the US Open and a tie for 40th at The Open, so his major form outside Augusta faded as the summer went on.

Rory McIlroy odds for the DP World India Championship

His next start is the DP World India Championship at Delhi Golf Club from 15 to 18 October 2026. The DP World Tour announced in April that he would return, and the Sky Sports schedule updated on 30 September still lists Delhi as his next event. After it come Abu Dhabi from 5 to 8 November, the DP World Tour Championship from 12 to 15 November and the Australian Open at Kingston Heath from 3 to 6 December, all marked as subject to change.

The first edition in 2025 is the only course form there is. Tommy Fleetwood won it on 22 under par, two clear of Keita Nakajima, and he is in the field again. McIlroy finished tied 26th on 11 under, eleven shots back.

Our estimate, not a bookmaker price: about a 12% chance of winning in Delhi, a fair price near 7/1 (8.00 in decimal). Why:

1. Field strength. A DP World Tour event draws fewer elite players than a major or a signature PGA Tour event, and he arrives as world number two.
2. The title he is defending. He is the reigning Race to Dubai champion, for a seventh time and a fourth year running, and the autumn events decide the next one.
3. A poor first visit. Tied 26th a year ago gives no evidence that the course suits him.
4. Recent form. Tied fourth at the Tour Championship and tied second at Wentworth in September show the long game is in order.

Our view: Rory McIlroy odds in single figures for Delhi would be too short for us. A top-ten bet asks less of a player who has not yet shown he likes the course.

Rory McIlroy odds for the 2027 Masters

Our estimate for Rory McIlroy, not a bookmaker price: about a 10% chance, which works out at a fair price close to 9/1. Why we land there:

1. Two straight wins. He has solved the course twice in succession, and Augusta rewards players who know where to miss.
2. Driving advantage. Second in distance and second off the tee in 2026 is a real edge on a course where length helps on the par 5s.
3. History is against him. Nobody has won three Masters in a row, and the market will charge for the story as much as for the golf.
4. Scheffler. The world number one finished one shot behind him in 2026 and is roughly twice as strong on ranking points.
5. Short game numbers. Mid-table around the green and on the greens leave little margin when the course is firm.

Our view: at 8/1 or shorter we would pass on the outright and look at top-ten prices, which his nine top tens at Augusta support better.

How to bet on McIlroy: which odds to take

Outright winner. Rory McIlroy odds at Augusta carry a story premium. A defending champion going for a record draws heavy money, which usually shortens his price below where the numbers put it.

Top 5 and top 10. Our preferred markets for him. Ties are common at Augusta, and any tie on the last paying place is settled under dead-heat rules.

Each way. With his price likely in single figures, place terms matter more than the headline odds. Put any offer through the each way calculator before deciding.

Matchups. McIlroy against Scheffler will be the headline pairing in head-to-head markets. If one of them misses the cut, the other usually wins the bet, so check the site's rules first.

Where to watch

Each country's Masters coverage sits with its national broadcasters, and the tournament publishes live scores and video on its own website and app during the week. Some betting sites offer selected golf to account holders as well. That was one of the things we weighed when choosing our sites, but coverage is uneven: one site may show a full round, another only a feature group, another nothing.
