Scottie Scheffler at number one: the 2026 season and his odds for Augusta
Scottie Scheffler finished 2026 as he started it, at the top of the world ranking, with three PGA Tour wins, a second FedEx Cup and five second places. This profile sets out his record, what the numbers say about his game, and how we would approach him for the 2027 Masters.
Scottie Scheffler is the reference point for every golf market in 2027. He is world number one in the ranking for the week ending 4 October 2026, with an average of 17.21 points, almost twice the 8.84 of Rory McIlroy in second. He finished second at Augusta in April, one shot behind McIlroy, and he will be the shortest price in the field when the Masters starts on 8 April 2027. The question for a bettor is not whether he can win, but whether Scottie Scheffler odds leave anything on the table once the margin is taken out.

At Augusta the record is unusually clean. Seven starts, seven cuts made, two wins, and a finish of fourth or better in each of the last three years.

What is known about Scheffler's game
Ball striking. Scheffler is widely regarded as the best ball striker since Woods. In the 2022–23 season he gained 2.614 strokes per round tee to green, the second-best figure since the PGA Tour began recording it in 2003, behind only Woods in 2006. In 2026 he ranked first on tour in strokes gained total (2.263 per round) and first in greens in regulation (72.52%), according to PGA Tour figures taken before the Tour Championship.
Off the tee. He is not one of the longest hitters. His 2026 driving average was 312.5 yards, 36th on tour, yet he ranked fifth in strokes gained off the tee because he combines decent length with very few wide misses.
Short game and putting. Putting was the weak part of his game in 2023, when he ranked 162nd in strokes gained putting. He began working with putting coach Phil Kenyon, switched to a mallet putter in 2024 and later adopted a claw grip for short putts. In 2026 he ranked fifth in putting and fifth around the green, which leaves no obvious gap in the statistics.
The one caveat. Five second places in a season is a lot for a player this good. Two of them came in playoffs, at Harbour Town and at the Travelers, where he missed a putt of about four feet to extend the playoff. He still wins often; he simply did not convert every chance in 2026.
Scottie Scheffler odds for the 2027 Masters
The Masters runs from Thursday 8 April to Sunday 11 April 2027, and it is the next event on which his price will be built. Our estimate, not a bookmaker price: about an 18% chance of winning, which converts to a fair price of roughly 9/2. Reasons:
- Course record. Two wins and three consecutive top-four finishes. He has never missed a weekend at Augusta.
- The 2026 weekend. Twelve shots behind at halfway, he shot 65 and 68 without a bogey and finished one short. Wikipedia notes no player had gone bogey-free over the last two rounds at the Masters since hole-by-hole data began in 1942.
- Ranking gap. His average is close to double the player in second, and the gap to the rest is wider.
- Against him. McIlroy goes for a third straight title on a course he has now solved twice, and an 18% favourite still loses more than four times in five.
Our view: at a quoted price near 4/1 we would leave the outright alone and look at top-five and top-ten markets instead, where his Augusta record does more of the work.
Reading Scottie Scheffler odds against our number
A short price hides how much the margin costs. The table sets a few prices you are likely to see beside our own figure.
| Price | Fractional | Decimal | Implied chance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Our fair price (estimate) | 9/2 | 5.50 | 18% |
| Where we would start to bet | 5/1 | 6.00 | 17% |
| A typical favourite's quote | 4/1 | 5.00 | 20% |
| A shorter quote | 7/2 | 4.50 | 22% |
Every step shorter than 9/2 asks him to be more likely than we think he is. That does not make the shorter Scottie Scheffler odds wrong, only expensive on our reading. The odds calculator turns any quote into a percentage you can set against our 18%.

Outright. Scottie Scheffler odds to win outright are the simplest bet and the one that carries the least value on a favourite this short. Compare prices across sites; a quarter-point difference matters at these odds.
Top 5 and top 10. Scottie Scheffler odds in the place markets are where his consistency is paid for most directly. His record suits these markets: five top-ten finishes in seven Masters starts. Remember the dead-heat rule. If he ties for fifth with two others, a top-five stake is settled at a third.
Each way. At short odds each way rarely helps, because the place part returns only a fraction of a small price. The each way calculator shows the return for any place terms.
Matchups. Head-to-head prices against McIlroy or Fitzpatrick are the most direct way to bet his form without paying the outright margin. Read the rules on ties before you place one.
The general rules for golf markets are on the golf betting guide, and the field, dates and our wider view of Augusta are on the 2027 Masters page.
Where to watch
National broadcasters hold the rights to the Masters country by country, and Augusta National runs its own website and app with scoring and video through the week. Several betting sites also stream a share of golf to signed-in customers. We took that into account when building our list of sites, but the events carried and the amount of coverage are not the same from one site to another.
The other players at the top
The two players directly behind him in the ranking have their own profiles: Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick. Both beat Scottie Scheffler by a single shot or in a playoff this year.
