The 2027 Masters at Augusta National: field, markets and an early view
The 2027 Masters is played at Augusta National from 8 to 11 April, and Rory McIlroy arrives having won it two years running. This page explains how the invitational field is built, what the four 2026 majors told us, and how to read the market six months before the first tee shot.
The Masters is the only major played on the same course every year, and that changes how it should be bet. Augusta National rewards players who have seen it many times, the field is the smallest of the four majors, and a short list of realistic winners carries most of the money. Here is how to read the Masters odds for April 2027, starting from what is known on 5 October 2026.

The 2027 Masters: dates, course and field
Tournament week runs from Monday 5 April to Sunday 11 April 2027, per the schedule published on masters.com. The first three days are for practice and the Par 3 Contest, and the four scoring rounds are played from Thursday 8 April to Sunday 11 April. The club has already listed 3 to 9 April for 2028 and 2 to 8 April for 2029.
The venue is Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, founded by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts. The first tournament was held in 1934, and it has been scheduled for the first full week of April since 1940. For 2026 the course measured 7,565 yards at par 72.
The field is invited, not qualified through a tournament. Augusta National itself calls it the smallest field in major championship golf. There is no fixed number: anyone who meets one of the published categories receives an invitation. The 2026 list had 26 categories, and the main ones look like this.
| Category | What it gives |
|---|---|
| Past Masters champions | A lifetime invitation |
| US Open, Open and PGA champions | Five years of invitations |
| Players Championship winners | Three years |
| Top 12 and ties at the previous Masters | The next Masters |
| Top four at the other three majors | The next Masters |
| PGA Tour winners between Masters, Tour Championship qualifiers | The next Masters |
| Winners of six national opens: Scotland, Spain, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, South Africa | The next Masters |
| Top 50 in the world ranking at year end, or in the last list before the event | An invitation |
| Leading amateur champions | An invitation |
In 2026 that produced 91 starters, six of them amateurs. Only 54 played the weekend, with the cut at four over par. For betting, the number matters less than its make-up: a field of 91 includes former champions playing for the tradition and amateurs gaining experience, so the list of players who can actually win is far shorter than the entry list suggests. The Masters odds reflect that: the leading names are priced shorter than they would be in a full-field tour event.
The 2026 winner and the other majors
Rory McIlroy won the 2026 Masters at 12 under par, 276, one stroke ahead of Scottie Scheffler. Justin Rose, Cameron Young, Tyrrell Hatton and Russell Henley shared third at 10 under. McIlroy led by six after 36 holes, a tournament record, was caught by Young after the third round and lost the lead on Sunday's front nine before birdies at the 12th and 13th put him three clear. He became only the fourth player to win in consecutive years, after Jack Nicklaus (1965–66), Nick Faldo (1989–90) and Tiger Woods (2001–02).
The three majors that followed went to three different players, and two of them were first-time major winners.
| 2026 major | Course | Winner | Score | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Masters | Augusta National | Rory McIlroy | 276 (−12) | 1 over Scottie Scheffler |
| PGA Championship | Aronimink | Aaron Rai | 274 (−9) | 3 over Jon Rahm and Alex Smalley |
| US Open | Shinnecock Hills | Wyndham Clark | 276 (−4) | 1 over Sam Burns |
| The Open | Royal Birkdale | Ryan Fox | 270 (−10) | 1 over Cameron Young |
Three of the four majors were settled by a single stroke. Fox became only the second New Zealander to win The Open, after Bob Charles in 1963. Clark's win was his second US Open. All three new major winners now hold five-year Masters invitations, and Young finished in the top four at both Augusta and Birkdale.
Why Augusta experience shows in the results
No player has won the Masters on a first appearance since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979. Before him, only Horton Smith in 1934 and Gene Sarazen in 1935 had done it. McIlroy's 2026 win kept that run going: he played his first Masters in 2009, seventeen years earlier.
The 2026 leaderboard shows the same pattern from another angle. The runner-up, Scheffler, is a two-time champion. Rose, tied for third, had lost a playoff to McIlroy a year earlier. The shot McIlroy called the biggest of his week, a 9-iron to seven feet at the par-3 12th, came from advice Tom Watson gave him in a practice round in 2009 about waiting for the wind to settle before hitting.
That is the case for experience in plain terms. The greens are fast and steeply contoured, the wind swirls around Amen Corner, and the right miss on many holes is only learned by playing them. When the Masters odds on a debutant look tempting, remember the record: a debutant in good form is usually better backed for a place or a top-20 finish than to win outright.
Betting Augusta: each way, top 10, first-round leader and matchups
Each way. The Masters attracts some of the most generous place terms of the season, but the number of places and the fraction are set by each site, so compare them before you compare the Masters odds themselves. The 2026 finish shows why ties matter. Four players shared third, filling positions three to six. On a five-place bet, only three of those four positions pay, so a place stake on any of them was paid at three quarters under the dead-heat rule. With six places it would have been paid in full.
Top 10 and top 20. These suit consistent Augusta performers who rarely win. In 2026 the top 10 came to exactly ten players with no tie across the line, but one stroke either way and a dead heat would have cut the return.
First-round leader. A one-day market with long prices. Read the tee times when they are published and watch the forecast: a calm morning on Thursday can favour one half of the field.
Matchups. Round markets follow the published pairings, and tournament matchups run over 72 holes. If one player misses the cut, the other wins the matchup, which makes matchups against past champions who are no longer competitive worth a careful look.
Our view: an early outright look
This section is opinion, six months before the event, and the Masters odds offered this early tend to move a long way before April. Prices will move with form, injuries and the ranking, and any price below is our own estimate, not a quote.
Our view on the favourite. Scheffler was world number one at Augusta in April, is a two-time champion and finished second in 2026 despite trailing by twelve shots after 36 holes. Expected price, our estimate: around 4/1 to 5/1. That is short for a field of this size, and we would rather back him in a top-five market than outright.
Our view on the champion. McIlroy goes for a third straight title, something no player has done. The market will respect his record here, and our estimate of a fair price sits around 8/1 to 10/1. We see less value at that level than in the players behind him.
Our pick for each way. Cameron Young finished third at Augusta and second at Royal Birkdale in 2026 and is still looking for a first major. Expected price, our estimate: 25/1 to 33/1, which on extra place terms makes him our early each-way choice.

Where to watch the Masters
Coverage is held by national broadcasters in each country, and the tournament also runs its own website and app with live scoring and video during the week. Some betting sites show selected golf inside a signed-in account. We counted that when choosing the sites on our list, though which events appear, and how much of each, differs from one site to the next.
