2025 in review: Bethpage Black

Europe won the 45th Ryder Cup 15–13 at Bethpage Black, Farmingdale, New York, from 26 to 28 September 2025. Keegan Bradley captained the United States.

The figures from Ryder Cup Europe tell the story of two different matches. Europe's seven-point lead after four sessions was the largest going into a final day in the modern era, and no team since 1979 had reached 11½ points before the singles. Then the United States took 8½ points from the twelve singles, equal to the best singles total since 1979, and Europe won only one singles match outright. The 2-point margin was the closest since Medinah in 2012.

One singles match was never played. Viktor Hovland withdrew with a neck injury, and under the envelope rule Harris English, the player Bradley had named in advance, sat out with him. The match was recorded as a half. Shane Lowry's half took Europe to the 14 points needed to retain the cup, and Tyrrell Hatton's half made it an outright win.

Tommy Fleetwood was Europe's top scorer with 4 points from five matches. Rory McIlroy and Hatton had 3½ each. For the United States, Cameron Young and Xander Schauffele led with 3 points each.

How Ryder Cup betting works

In Ryder Cup betting, every match is worth one point and a halved match is worth a half to each side. Over three days there are eight foursomes, eight fourballs and twelve singles. That structure drives every market.

• Match winner (outright). Europe, the United States or the tie. A 14–14 tie lets the holder keep the trophy, but in the betting it is still a tie, and the tie is priced as its own outcome. Check whether your bet is on winning the match or on retaining the cup.
• Points handicap. One team starts with a head start in points, such as 2.5. Bethpage is the case study: Europe -2.5 lost on a 15–13 result after leading by seven.
• Correct score. The exact final tally, from 14½–13½ to a blowout. Prices are long, and bands such as “Europe by 3 to 5 points” are a shorter way to bet the same view.
• Top points scorer. Top European, top American or top overall. Ties for the lead are common, because the leading players often play four or five matches, and dead-heat rules then cut the payout.
• Session betting. Each of the five sessions is a small match of its own: who wins Friday's foursomes, or the Sunday singles. Pairings are announced before each session, and prices move fast once they are known.
• Individual matches. Three-way prices, with the half as the third outcome. Two-way prices settle ties by the site's own rules.

Halved matches deserve more attention in Ryder Cup betting than they get. Bethpage had several, and in a tight singles session each half shifts the correct score and the handicap. A two-way match bet on a close pairing carries the risk of a void or a dead heat that most bettors forget to price in.

Home advantage: the record since 1979

Continental European players joined the team in 1979, which is where most Ryder Cup statistics start. From the full results table on Wikipedia, read on 5 October 2026, the record over the 23 contests from 1979 to 2025 is as follows.

Europe have won seven in a row at home, every contest in Europe since 1997. The last US win in Europe was 1993 at The Belfry. Bethpage was the first road win by either side since Medinah in 2012. Over the whole period, Europe lead 13 wins to 9, with one tie.

In our reading, home advantage is partly the course, set up to suit the home side, and partly crowd and travel. It does not decide every match, as 2012 and 2025 showed, but it is the single fact that most shapes Ryder Cup betting for 2027.

Ryder Cup predictions: an early view

This is our opinion a year out, not a tip, and both teams are still eleven months from being picked.

Our view: Europe should go to Adare Manor as favourites. They are the holders, they have the home record above and they keep the captain who has won twice. The United States finished Bethpage the stronger team on Sunday, which suggests the gap is smaller than the 15–13 margin implies when the matches are played on even terms. We would expect Europe to be priced around 1.75 to win outright and the tie around 13.0. Both are our estimates, not quotes from a sportsbook.

Our angle: before the teams are known, the points handicap and correct-score bands are where Ryder Cup odds are most likely to be wrong. The results table shows why: since 1979, eleven of the 23 contests were decided by two points or fewer and eleven by five or more, with only 2002 in between. Ryder Cup odds rarely reflect how often the middle band is missed. A narrow European win, by one or two points, is the band we would look at once prices appear.
