Betting on national teams: the 2026-27 calendar, the markets and our prices
Spain are world champions, the Nations League is four rounds into its league phase and the qualifiers for Euro 2028 and AFCON 2027 are under way. This page sets out what national teams play between now and next summer, why their matches price differently from club football, and where we think the fair odds sit.
National-team football is the least efficient market a mainstream bettor will meet. Teams gather for a few days, play twice or four times, and scatter again. The bookmaker has less to go on than for any club fixture, and so does everyone else. Our international football predictions start from that gap: where the price is guesswork, a careful reading of motivation and team news is worth more than in the Premier League.

Where the national-team calendar stands (as of 5 October 2026)
The 2026–27 season has a new shape. FIFA has merged the old September and October breaks into one sixteen-day window, 21 September to 6 October 2026, in which each team may play up to four matches. That window ends tomorrow. The next and last window of the year runs from 9 to 17 November 2026 and allows two matches. There is no separate October break this season, and under FIFA's calendar for 2025–2030 the merged window is meant to stay.
| Competition | When | What is at stake |
|---|---|---|
| UEFA Nations League, league phase | 24 Sep – 17 Nov 2026 | Group places, promotion and relegation, quarter-final spots |
| Nations League quarter-finals and play-offs | 25 – 30 Mar 2027 | Places in the June finals |
| Nations League Finals | 9 – 13 Jun 2027 | The trophy |
| Euro 2028 qualifying draw | 6 Dec 2026, Belfast | Groups for March-November 2027 |
| AFCON 2027 qualifying | Sep 2026 – Mar 2027 | 24 places in the finals |
| AFC Asian Cup, Saudi Arabia | 7 Jan – 5 Feb 2027 | The Asian title |
| CONCACAF Nations League Finals | 22 – 30 Mar 2027 | Trophy and Gold Cup places |
| Africa Cup of Nations | 19 Jun – 17 Jul 2027 | The African title |
In Europe both windows are filled by the Nations League, so most leading European sides play competitive matches rather than friendlies this autumn. Euro 2028 qualifying does not begin until March 2027, after the draw in Belfast. The tournament itself, hosted by the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, runs from 9 June to 9 July 2028, with the final at Wembley. Outside Europe the picture is mixed, and international football predictions there rest on even thinner data: Argentina, the beaten World Cup finalists, have been playing friendlies in both windows, and their November opponents had not been announced when we checked.
The World Cup that sets the prices
The 2026 World Cup, the first with 48 teams, ended on 19 July 2026 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. Spain beat Argentina 1–0 after extra time, with Ferran Torres scoring the only goal. It was Spain's second world title and their first since 2010. For the first time, the four highest-ranked teams in the world all reached the semi-finals: Spain beat France 2–0 and Argentina beat England 2–1.
Two numbers from that tournament still shape the market. Spain conceded once in the whole competition. Kylian Mbappé won the Golden Boot with ten goals and Rodri was named best player. Bookmakers price Spain as a defensive side, which matters for totals and for any international football predictions on their matches. Yet in three Nations League matches since, Spain have conceded four, including two at Wembley in a 3–2 win. A reputation earned in July can outlive the evidence, and that lag is one of the few dependable edges in international football predictions.
Why national-team odds behave differently
A club plays forty or fifty matches a season with a settled squad. A national team plays a dozen or fewer, often with a different group of players each time. That changes how the market works in five ways.
- Less data. A coach's preferred eleven may have played together only a handful of times. Models built on recent form have little to work with, so the opening price leans on reputation and ranking.
- Late team news. Squads are named days before a window, withdrawals follow, and the starting line-up is often clear only an hour before kick-off. Prices move more on that news than they do for club matches.
- Rotation inside a window. With four matches in sixteen days this autumn, most coaches changed several players between games. A second match three days after the first is rarely played by the same eleven.
- Motivation. In a friendly, a coach may use six substitutes and test a new system. A side already through in the Nations League, or already beaten, can treat the last round the same way. The result market does not always catch this, and it is where international football predictions most often go wrong.
- Venue. Home advantage is real but uneven: some federations take matches to smaller grounds, and finals tournaments are played on neutral or near-neutral turf.
The bookmaker's answer to all of this is a wider margin. The mark-up on a Nations League match result tends to be higher than on a major league fixture, and much higher on a friendly. Run any three-way price through the odds calculator before you bet; if the book is well above 100 %, you are paying for the uncertainty.
Which markets work for national teams
Match result. The 1X2 works when both sides need the points. In a dead rubber or a friendly it is the market most exposed to an unpredictable team sheet.
Asian handicap. Mismatches are common in international football: a team from the top of League A against one with nothing left to play for, or a world champion against a qualifier minnow. When the favourite is too short to back, the line becomes the bet. Our guide to Asian handicap lines covers how -1.25 and -1.5 settle.
Goal totals. Defensive reputations travel slowly, as Spain show. The over 2.5 goals guide explains how the line is set, and the Poisson calculator turns your own goal expectations into a fair price.
Both teams to score. This suits matches between two attacking sides, and it does not depend on guessing the winner, which helps when line-ups are unclear. See BTTS explained for the logic.
Correct score is a high-margin market at the best of times. We rarely use it for international football predictions, and if you do, read the correct score guide first.
Upcoming matches: our international football predictions
The fixtures below are confirmed Nations League matches between leading European sides. Kick-off times are UK time. The price column is our estimate, not a bookmaker price: the decimal odds at which we think each pick is fair. These international football predictions are our opinion and nothing more.
| Fixture | Date and UK kick-off | Our view | Fair price (our estimate, not a bookmaker price) |
|---|---|---|---|
| France v Belgium, Saint-Denis | Mon 5 Oct, 19:45 | France to win | around 1.95 |
| Croatia v Spain, Split | Tue 6 Oct, 19:45 | Both teams to score | around 1.85 |
| England v Czech Republic, Wembley | Tue 6 Oct, 19:45 | England -1.5 Asian handicap | around 1.80 |
| Italy v France, San Siro | Thu 12 Nov, 19:45 | Under 2.5 goals | around 1.75 |
| Spain v England, Madrid | Sun 15 Nov, 19:45 | Over 2.5 goals | around 1.80 |
| Germany v Netherlands, Berlin | Mon 16 Nov, 19:45 | Germany draw no bet | around 1.75 |
France v Belgium. France lead Group 1 with seven points; Belgium are one behind after beating Turkey 3–0. A home win puts France close to the quarter-finals. Our view is that France need it more than Belgium, who still have Turkey away to come.
Croatia v Spain. Croatia lost 7–0 at home to England on Saturday, the heaviest defeat in their history. A bounce-back is likely in Split, and Spain have been conceding. We prefer goals at both ends to a handicap on Spain.
England v Czech Republic. England have scored eleven in three matches; the Czech Republic have yet to take a point. The fourth match in sixteen days invites rotation, which is why we stop at -1.5 rather than a bigger line.
Italy v France, Spain v England and Germany v Netherlands. These November matches could settle Groups 1, 2 and 3. Italy and France drew 1–1 at Saint-Denis, and we expect another cautious game. Spain against England in Madrid repeats a fixture that produced five goals at Wembley. Germany, on five points, probably need to beat the Netherlands to stay in the race for a quarter-final place. Our match-by-match notes for the Nations League are on the Nations League page.
If you combine several picks, the acca calculator shows the return and how quickly the margin compounds.

The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be played in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from 19 June to 17 July 2027, the first time the tournament has returned to East Africa in five decades. Qualifying involves 48 teams in twelve groups of four, playing home and away across three windows: two rounds from 21 September to 6 October 2026, two from 9 to 17 November 2026 and the last two from 22 to 30 March 2027. Twenty-four teams reach the finals. The three hosts are already qualified but still play their groups, and in those groups only the best-placed team other than the host goes through.
For bettors in East Africa, that means a host's qualifying matches can turn into low-stakes fixtures for the host and high-stakes ones for its opponents. Our page on betting sites in Kenya covers kick-off times in Nairobi and what to check in a cashier before a tournament summer.
Elsewhere, Saudi Arabia hosts the AFC Asian Cup from 7 January to 5 February 2027, with 24 teams in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar. In North and Central America, the CONCACAF Nations League group stage for League A ends with the merged window on 6 October; its quarter-finals fall in the November window and the finals are set for 22 to 30 March 2027, with places at the 2027 Gold Cup at stake.
Where to watch national-team football
Rights to national-team matches are sold country by country. In Europe, national broadcasters show the Nations League in each market, and UEFA's own site lists every fixture with kick-off times. Some federations also post highlights on their own channels.
A number of betting sites also stream a selection of international matches to logged-in account holders, normally beside the in-play market for that game. We have picked out sites that offer this, but the list of matches differs between sites and between countries, so check it before the match rather than at kick-off.

International weekends interrupt the club season, and prices for the next league round often move on fitness news from the break. Our football betting hub links every competition we cover. For the domestic leagues, see the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1.
If you want an account that will not ask for documents before your first bet on a qualifier, our list of no verification betting sites explains when each one may still ask.
